Saint' s provides fun niglit for young and and old alike The Saint's Roller Skating Arena prides itself in providing Whitby with a "wholesomne f a m ily recreation facility", a place where young and old alike can go for an evening spin around their rink. Trhe Saint's, a Canadian owned company, has been located at 901 Burns Street East in Whitby for the past 14 months. The Whitby facility is one of twelve which are spread across Canada from Edmon- ton to Nova Scotia. In total 24 part time em- ployees, mostly students, and three full time em- ployees patrol the 11,000 square feet of skating sur- face to ensure safety. A full disc jockey set up provides the music to skate by. The music is played by a disc jockey/floor guard who, by controlling the pace of the songs, controls in turn the pace of the skaters. While jeans are allowed to be worn at the Saint's, all clothes must be in good con- dition and no gumn or smoking is allowed anywhere in the building. At alI times, 1,000 pair of skates are on hand at the Saint's rental booth. For those skaters who own or are thinking of buying a pair of skates, a pro shop is cen- trally located by the skating surface to provide expert advice and accessories. A snack bar, amusement corner and 250 lockers are provided in the building for the skaters' pleasure. The Saint's is open every night of the week and ad- mission varies depending on the day of the week. Along with the open skating sessions special lessons, group parties and other special "skates" are available.
