Lee Hewitt, Whtby's speech contest winner, may participate in this event as she was runner-up at the recently-held Council 2 competition. Toastmistress members are encouraged to bring guests, and mernbers of the general public are invited to attend what promises to be an enjoyable evening. Dress will be semni- formai; seats theatre-style. Members of the news media will be attending. After the judging of the contestants, a reception will be held. Tickets, at $7 a person, may be obtained from Jeanette Etter, 30 Calder Crescent, Whitby, or may be reserved through Merle Gerrard at 416-491-3742. Reserved tickets may be picked up at the registration desk of the Prince Hotel, at York Milis and Leslie, on the day of the event between 8 arn. and 4 p.m., as welI as 6 p, m. to 7: 30p. m. This Toronto Conference wiIl be the first held by the new Great Lakes Region which was formed ini 1980 through a division of the old one. Five councils, two of which are located in Ontario with the others in Michigan and Ohio, make up this new region. Each council com- prises about 12 clubs. Ontario fits into three of International Toastmistress Regions, of which there are 26 altogether throughout the world. The Ontario portion of the Great Lakes Region encom- passes an area from Sarnia, in the west, to North Bay in the north, to Oshawa in the east. Mfter the speech contest, the Great Lakes Regional Conference continues on Saturday and Sunday with notable people, such as Toastmistress International President Sandy Baton, and former Lieutenant- Governor Pauline McGib- bon, in attendance. McGibbon will be guest speaker at the Saturday night awards banquet. Various workshops will be conducted on both days.
