Any boys between the age of 9-16 living in the Oshawa, Whitby, Bowmanville and Port Perry area who are in- terested in playing football are invited to attend. All boys should be ready to start in running shoes or foot- ball shoes, sweatsuits or shorts and t-shirts or sweatshirts. Clinics will be held for three separate age groups; (9-11) 10- 10:30 a.m., (12-13) 12:30 - 2p.m. and (14-16) 2:30 - 4p.m. The new head coach at York University, Dave Pickett, and members of his coaching staff will assist the Hawkeye's coaches at the clinics. The primary purpose of this clinie is to introdute boys to the fundamentals of football and register players for the "1981 Hawkeye Team." Learn-to-Sail The Mobile Learn-To-Sail program will be stopping off in Oshawa this summer between June 29 and August 3 to provide the opportunity for interested people 10 years of age and up (as of June 1, 1981) to learn how to sail. The program, sponsored by the Oshawa Community Ser- vices Department, the Recreation Department and Durham Cruisemarina, will be teaching the basics of sailing with ac- tual sailing time being maximized. The program's cost is $30 for youths (ages 10-18), and $35 for adults (ages, 19 and up) and will be held at Durham Cruisemarina. Participants may select one of three class times: 9-12, noon, 1:30-4:30 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. Registration is limited to 45 participants with registration being accepted daily at the Recreation Division, 141 Thornton Road South, Oshawa, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. For more information call 725-1111. Kart racing With three races already under their belts the Whitby Kart Club-Goodyear Challenge will-be returning to Family Kar- tway Track this Saturday, May 23 for an Enduro race. The Enduro race will be for all series of karts. The drivers will spend one hour driving around the trac~k trying to amass the greatest number of laps in that time period. Over the course of the year a total of 14races will be held at the Whitby track, between May 23 and October 31. Swim program Registration for this year's Summer. Instructional Swim Program will be held Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to il a.m. at the Iroquois Recreation Complex. The summer sessions will be held through the months of July and August. Brooklin Redmen The Brooklin Redmen Lacrosse team will play host to the Brampton Excelsiors on Saturday, May 23 at the Brooklin Memorial Arena. Swim- a-thon this weekend The Whitby Iroquois Swim Club will be holding their annual Swim-A-Thon this weekend at Iroqouis Park pool to help raise money for the club's operation expen- ses. Over the course of two hours, swimmers will at- tempt to swim 200 lengths of the pool. Members of this year's Ontario 4A Championship are currently out in the community approaching sponsors for their swim. The Swim-A-Thon has been a part of the clubs schedule for the past four years Each year Brian McAliden, 13, has been the top achiever in the fund raising endeavour. As an added incentive the Saints Roller Rink has donated 50 free roller skating passes to the swim- mers, who range in age from 6 to 17. Pepsi Cola of Whitby has also donated free Pepsi drinks for the WISC's roller skating party at the Saints on May 10 to celebrate their Ontario Championship vic- tory. Pepsi Cola have also spon- sored a WISC swimmer for the event. b Para-mutal betting Harness racing will again be featured at the Brooklin Spring Fair. This year, the day of horse races will be held on Sunday, June 7 at the race track on the fair grounds on Winchester Road East. Couneillors needed for camps The Whitby Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting students in- terested in becoming volun- teer counsellors in our summer Kindercamp at Iroquois Park Complex. Students must be 14 years minimum plus have an in- terest in working with pre- schoolers. To find out more about the counsellors positions, come to a meeting on Monday, June 1, 7 - 9 p.m. in the pool observation room at Iroquois Park Complex. Whitby teams tops The Whitby Mail and the Whitby Sailing lacrosse teams won both their mat- ches last week to remain tied for first place in the Over-the-Hill Lacrosse League. The two currently have records of three wins, no losses and one tie. The Sailers defeated the winless Glen. Auto 13-7. Gary Ravary and Carlo Cammazola turned in three goal efforts for the Sailers. Stewart Stoneman and George Hilliard picked up a pair of markers each. Lone goals were scored by Neil Burns, John Campbell and Corny Perks. in a much closer game Whitby Mail made it past the 1 and 3 MK Snowmobiles. Four goal efforts were turned in by Mark Watson and Paul Ravary while Bill Barker picked up a hat trick. The other Whitby goal was scored by Brian Drew. Counsellors-in-training are also being accepted for our sports camp in lacrosse, soccer, baseball and tennis and our adventure daycamp. Applicants must be 14 years of age and enjoy working with children. Those applying for sports camp must have a background in one of the sports in the camp. For the fourth year in a row the Whitby Yacht Club will be presenting its Junior Sail Instruction series under the same theme, "Set sail for summer." The courses will be taught in four two-week sessions, July 6, July 20, August 3 and August 17, at the WYC at the south end of Whitby Harbor. Any boy or girl, age nine to 17, may sign up for the lessons, which will again be taught by top quality CYA The defending Minto Cup champion C.B.C. Builders got the season off to a shakey start last week, narrowly defeating the Etobicoke Eclipse 16-14. The game was lost and won with bad officiating in the eyes of Eclipse coach Mike Fisher and being able to capitalize on penalties ac- cording to Builder coach Jim Hinkson.
