The 12-day carnival wii. start off with a bang tomorrow night with both the Miss County Town Carnival Pageant and the Peter Perry Awards being held at the same tine. The beauty pageant is being held at the Royal year s Canadian Legion Hall on Byron Street South beginming at 7:30 p.m. The Peter Perry Award, given by the Whitby Chamber of Commerce to the year's most outstanding citizen, will be given at a dinner being held at the Earl of Durham Restaurant on Brock Street South. The traditional Coun- ty Town Carnival Parade, sponsored by everyone Carnival the Whitby Jaycees, will wind its way through town beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The parade wil travel east on Giffard Street, south on Cochrane Street to Dundas Street where it will again turn east until it reaches Garden Street where it wil turn north and ter- minate at the Whitby Senior Public School. The parade wil pass right through the down- town mail that is being sponsored by the Whitby Central Business District Improvement Area Board. The mail will see Brock Street eut off to traffic from Coîhourne Street in the south to Mary Street in the nor- th. This year's mail wil have a western flavor and the attractions will include such thinga as "Rocky - the rnechani- cal bull; " a best legs in western boots contest and a best costume (western outfit) contest. Country music wil also f111 the air with the Buster Fykes Band and the Larry and Dottie Bee Band taking the stage to perform. The merchants in the downtown area wiil also be holding a sidewalk sale amidst outdoor cafes and a beer garden. Later that evening, fair goers can partake of three entertaininent features that are part of this year's carnival. The Lions' Den, spon- sored by the Whitby Lions Club, will be held at the Iroquois Park Arena fromn 8 p.m. to 1 a.rn. The den will feature five hours of western,. pop and con- temporary music for listening and dancing featuring the Alpine Show. Band which will give two performances at 8 and 10: 30 p.m. Bert Heaver will be the host of the "Talent Showcase 1981" which will be at the Whitby Senior Public Sehool on Garden Street. Froni 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. the Whitby Arts Station Gallery wii be holding their annual Las Vegas Night where fair goers can try to win back sonie of the money they have spent at the gaming tables. The gallery is located at t.he corners of Henry and Victoria Streets. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, the Whitby Lawn Bowling Club wiil be the site of the Ruddy Elec- tric tournament.
