The event, endorsed and supervised by the Canadian Soap Box Derby Association drew 54 entries from al across southern Ontario competing in several different classes. The derby was also participated ini by 14 local youngsters many of whom raced for the first time. The trophy for the best local entrant, donated by the Whitby Free Press, was won by Paul McGary of 88 Frost Drive. McGary has also receivedi a trip to AXron, Ohio to test his soap box at the, legendary Derby Downs, the home of the sport. The senior 'A' coin- petition was won by Ed- die Csiki of Oak Ridges. The junior 'A' competi- tion was won by Tanya Jones of Toronto. John McCaig of Cam- Redmen drop 10-M9 decision to North Stars Matching goal for goal in the first and third periods was flot enough as the Brooklin Rednien went down to a one-goal defeat at the hands of the Owen Sound North Stars last week. The North Stars cap- tured a 10-9 decision by outscoring the Redinen by just one marker in the second period of play.
