It suggested you were about to be carried into a worid of make-believe and that is always a nice place to be, because there is music, laughter and lots of interesting things happening. Make-believe is a world that children, and even aduits, can escape into, and for a short time, everything- is beautiful. Bob and his wife, who works with him at the theatre, want te make Saturday and Sunday matinees an af- ternoon especialiy for the kids. They are plan- ning to show films each weekend that chiidren will enjoy. They even plan to bring back some of the older films, such as My Friend'ý Flicka with Elizabeth Taylor. There will be others such as Sinbad, and Sabu the Elephant Boy. Longmuir feels these are films that embody a good story, along with excitement and laughter, and present wholesome entertain- ment for the young people. These movies get away from the present film trend of blood, gore, sex and words that children shouidn't have to hear. Longmuir and his wife are not forgetting the ADULT IACCOMPANIMIIIIENTI OSB 4BAI> Y 5 WARNING SOME SCENES MAY FRIGHTEN e STARTS FR1., SAT., SUN. 7:00 & 9:15 MON..- TH URS. 7:30 ICINEMA WHITBY 668-3618 CHILDRENS MATIN EES SAT. & SUN. 2:00 FULN* aduits either. The Longmuirs want to make Cinema Whitby a theatre for children and aduits. They are anxious to have it known as a place where paren- ts can leave their chiidren to enjoy a movie without worrying about them. Cinema Whitby cer- tainiy has its place in the community, as a business that is trying to promote tasteful and en- joyable entertainment for the whoie family. We don't want to give away any secrets either', but Longmuir is plan- ning ail kinds of speciai things to go aiong with the matinees on the weekends. Take the kids and have a good t'rw McGibbon guest at club dinner Former Lieutenant- Governor of Ontario Pauline McGibbon wil open the 1981-2 season of Canadian Club on Thursday, September 10 at the Genosha Hotel, Oshawa with dinner at 6:30 p. m. The topic wiil be "'Reminiscences of a Lieutenant-Governor. " As the fîrst woman iieutenant-governor in the British Common- -wealth, Mrs. McGibbon won the affection and admiration of citizens throughout Canada. The Canadian Club is an organization dedi- cated to fostering an in- terest in ail matters of public concern and meets seven times yeariy at a dinner meeting. Memberships are availabie to ail on application to P.O. Box 391, Oshawa. Guests are invited to the first meeting and reservations shouid be made by telephoning the Genosha Hotel at 723- 4641. Three year terni CONT'D FROM PC. 7 acquire some degree of fluency with technicai areas such as planning and finance. Once these have been mastered, the only matter remaining is to acquire or nurture his political awareness to assist in future elections. When the year of an election (the second year) starts, politicians usually begin to ponder their next campaign. Quite naturally, politicians become more vocal and simuitaneously more cautious. The length of meetings increases, yet the quantity of decisions diminishes as politicians avoid contro- versial issues. On the side of the shorter term is the argument for, accountability. Municipal politics affects the day- to-day life of the citizens more directly and more dramaticaily than any other level of government. Therefore, the elected officiais shouid be brought to the poils often to account for their decisions and to be re-eiected or not depending on their performan- ce. My prediction is that the term wiii be increased to three years. It should commence after the 1982 elections, since the voters only bargained for us un- tii then.
