Geared to the needs of the average family, the wide-ranging program wilI include: - how to set up a budget, and keep track OSSTF/board stil talking Negotiations between the Durham Board of Education and its 1,017 secondary sehool teachers are expected to resume on Friday. According to board chairman Trustee Art Winter (Oshawa), a three-day long bargain- ing session has been scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the hopes of reaching a new agreement with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Feder- ation (OSSTF). Teachers represented by the federation are employed at 17 facilities throughout the Durham Region, except for the Town of Newcastle which is a member of a different school board. The OSSTF has yet to reach a legal strike posi- tion. Harold Nelson, the board's personnel manager, said that talks are continuing. "Everything is going quite weM," Nelson said last week. While some "small items" have been resolved, ail issues in the negotiations have been discussed, he ad- ded. Nelson declined to release specifics of resolved issues. Last week, Winter said that he did not know whether or not this weekend's talks wiII produce a new contract. "You can neyer tell how these issues go," he said. Whitby ambulance During the week that ended at midnigbt last Thursday, the Whitby Ambulance Service responded to 86 calis for service. Accordlng to co-owner Derek Pearce, the ser- vice responded to 28 routine cails and to 32 standby cails for other ambulance services in Oshawa and Ajax. The service also responded to 26 emergency cails, in- cluding five motor vehicle accidents. The number to cati for ambulance service is 73M.
