A spokesman for the Whitby Fire Depart- ment said that the fire did damage to part of the main electricai con- trol panel room at the Raîston Purina Canada Ltd. miii at 300 Hopkins Street. According to the spokesman, the fire was out when firefighters arrived on the scene at about 7:40 a.m. The-miii continued to opera te af ter the fire. The Concordia Pops Orchestra is in need of amateur or sem-pro- fessionai musicians for their upcoming season. Those who can play woodwirid, brass, per- cussion and especialiy string instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass> are required. According to con- ductor Andrew Uranowski, the or- chestra provides an op- portunity for musicians of ail ages - from students to senior citi- zens - to performn together. "Young musicians are able to gain ex- perience -through rehearsal and perform- ance while many of our mature members enjoy playing - as an avocation," Uranowski says. Orchestral repertoire covers a wide range of musical styles - from classical to pop. Con- certs are presented for varinus organizations throughout Durham Region - with special emphasis on perform- ances for senior citizens' groups and charitable institutions. Rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Anderson Collegiate and Vocational Institute, 400' Anderson Street. The first rehearsal of the 1981-82 season will be held on September 13.
