They got ail the way to the finals at the Ail- Ontario Championships in division "A", against Etobicoke. The game was welI played by both teams and was ied 8 al at the end of regulation time. The game was tied 9 ail after the first overtime period. Etobi- coke scored at 1: 40 of the second overtime period to win in sudden- death. Cheer up boys! That was only the second game you've lost since the 1981 season opened. Hold your heads high, you and your coaches, Mike Watson, Andy Dyment, and Tom Nolan are congratulated for a spectacular year. In the first game of the playoffs, Whitby beat Hamilton 8 to 5. Greg Van Siekie led the scoring with 4 goals, singles by Wayne Cor- nish, Rich Dyment, Dean VanderLinde and Mike Williams. Unfor- tunately, Rich Dyment, one of our top shooters, was called for an ap- parent butt-end. He received a five game suspension. In the second game, Whitby outscored Brampton 12 to 4. The final game was lost to Etobicoke in the second period of over- ime by a score of 10-9. Wayne Cornish, Steve Dyment, Greg Van- Sickle and Dean Van- derLinde each scored a pair. Emery Campbell started the scoring. Whitby won the silver medal for All-Ontario "A" division. The WGRMLA novice team ended their season by losing a close game played in Omemee ver- sus Peterborough 10 to 8. Peterborough Lhus won the best of three playoff for the OMLA Zone 6 championship two games to none. Scoring for the Whitby Kinismen team were Adam Foote with three goals, Chris Tucker and Andrew VanderLinde with two each and Garret Campbell. The tyke version of the Brooklin Redmen has won the "A" chani- pionship of the OMLA Zone 6 league. In play- off action against Beaches, Whitby won 7 to 4, at Iroquois Park Arena. Anne Windover sparked the team wxth 4 goals, Alan Frank scored twice and Kelly Vipond got 1. Our goal- tender Michael Massey helped with two assists. Whitby then finished the playoffs by beating Oshawa 6 to 4, a t Brooklin Memorial Arena. In so doing, they proved once again that most minor lacrosse teams from Whitby play hardest in the third period, Oshawa had led 2 to 1 after the second period of play. Anne Windover and Kelly Vipond each scored twice, Wayne Paddick scored the winning goal, Jason Pitters also scored. That's ail the lacrosse games for this year. The players are looking for- ward to the annuai corn roast when the tyke Leam is challenged in exhibition play by their mothers. Foilowed by the novice team who has been challenged by their dads.
