High school news week.... Henry Hi*gh off to a winig sti By SHARON CAMERON Henry Street H.S. With classe in ful swing, school teams are now being chosen. Basketball, volleyball, soccer and football teanis are starting to take shape. Henry's senior football team has already had a game or two. Henry won the frlst two. Henry won the firat garne 21 W o 0playing against McLaughlln. J Playing Pickering Wed- nesday of lait week proved challenging to Henry. Our achool lost 29 to21. Our junior team also played Pickering Wed- nesday afternoon win- nlng 9 to 0. Previously, the Henry Street juniors won grandly by defeat- fing G.L. Roberts 26 to 6. Already the students are looklng forward to the Mayor's Cup game against Anderson Colle- giate on October 15. Although Anderson has home advantage, Henry Is sure to prove challenging, trying to hold on to the cup for yet another year. On September 18, Mike Mandeil became a smashing success with the students of Henry High. The dance that evenlng, put on by the student council, was also a great success, primarily with the newly initiated grade nine students. Although the Sports-A-Thon did not turn out as was planned, the student council la stlll looking forward Wo a productive year. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate on behaif of the school, Art Zuldema for becoming this year's president of the student council. Mr. Almond has been busy planning a ski trip to Germany for over 40 students of Henry durlng the March break. This promises Wo be not only enjoyable but aiso educational as does the grade ten French trip to Quebec. Even our Trot- ters Club la beginning to plan outings for its members. A back- packing trip is already in the works . On Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24, school rings, charms and stick- pins were chosen by a number of students in either silver or gold. Since the pnice of gold has dropped since last year, the prices of the jewellery seem more reasonable, which helps when students cards, football game and dance tickets and soon to be yearbooks are ail dip- ping into the pockets of the students and/or parents of Henry Higb. The yearbook staff has been at work taking pictures at football games, starting lay-outs and having picture day last Thursday. Between being yelled at and trying to find your name card, the students made their way to the camera and had Lheir picture taken for the yearbook. Now to see how they turn out!1 Ms. Johnson is in charge this year and with the help of Joanne MOlica and other hard- working students, the yearbou-k shouid be a good onel1 On September 25 and 26 the Henry Street High School Girls Basketball tearns are having a tournamnent. Then again on the 29th the teanis are at McLaughlin to show how it's done. If the teanis are as good as last year, we are in for an exciting season.,Best of luck to ail of t.he D oc-A-Thon to be held tomorrow to raise funds By MIKE MURPHY Denis O'Connor H.S. The 1981 - 82 Denis O'Connor school year is off to a terrifie start, largely due to the boom in our student population. The first event of the school year was our "Get Acquainted Day" where the new grade fines became the celebrities. The nines were paired with the seniors for a scavanger hunt. Being bound together at the ankles is indeed motivation for communication. The event was a lot of fun and cer- tainly fuifilled its purpose. Later the student body "sock hopped" in the gym. It was a fun-filled after- noon. As you may or may not know, the biggest event every year at DO'C is the school's walkathon, or DO'C-A-Thon, as we affectionately cal] it. t is here that we corne out in force to supplement the finan- ces of our private school. It is a joint effort by students and staff alike. October 1 is our walking day and no doubt you will see us sporting both high spirits and blisters! This new year also signified the initation of our computer prograni. If the number of students enrolled in the course is any indication, it is to be a tremendous success. As for sports, the girls' basketball season will be starting soon, in addition, cross country and volley- bail. So the school is, once again, going full-til1t. tby Recreation teams. Henry's Chess Club and Sailing Club are starting up, giving everyone something to do.
