The second an- nual Carlsberg Canadian Masters Cross Country Skling Championships take place February 6 and 7 at Dagmar Ski Resort. Maie and female competitors 30 years and older in 5 year age categories will compete.in 5, 10,15 and 30 kilometre events. There's also a "challenge meet" against U.S. akiers in conjunction with the Championships. *So corne to Dagmar February 6 and 7 for the 'Canadian Masters Championships, sponsored by Carlsberg. Soccer try outs At a meeting held on Monçlay, January 18, the three directors, coaches and managers of the competitive teams have decided that try-outs for the 1982 soccer season will commence on Friday, January 25, at Henry Street High School gym- nasium. The first gaine of the Atom divi- -sion played in the gym- nasium of Henry High Sehool, Whitby, provid- ed good entertaininent for the parents, coaches and spectators alike. The game was going froin one end of the gym to the -other with lots of good scoring chances and good goalkeeping from both sides. Luigi Pepe put Whitby in front at the 15 minute mark and 5 minutes later Mike-Kosurko made it 2 to 0 Whitby. It took 35 minutes for Markham to get on the scoreboard and 3 minutes later Markham scored again to tie it up both goals coming from Andrew Guilfoyle to end the first hald 2 to 2. In the second haîf Markham took the lead for first time by two goals from Kevin Bester and Neil Parmenter. Whitby didn't give up and Dean Cray scored two goals, 3 minutes apart to tie the game again. In the last 5 minutes of the game both teams came close to scoring again, Markham hitting the goalpost and Whitby the crossbar. With less than 3 minutes left in the game Christian DeRocco took a direct shot froin a free kick to put the ball in the net and give Markham a 5 to 4 lead and win the game. In the Mosquito divi- si on we saw a different type of game, there was no scoring in the first haif but both goalten- ders had to be very alert and do some good saves to keep the opposition from scoring. In the second haîf Dean Alexander who played goal in the first haîf for Whitby opened up the score to make it 1 to O Whitby. Ten minutes later D. Aley tied it Up for Markham. Steven Ross put Whitby ahead for the second turne but Mark Chunge put one in Mike Thom vs. Century 21 Gold Jacket.... In the last game of the day Whitby Iroquois Pee Wee facing the Whitby D.O.C. High School with lots of ac- tion going both ways. David' Crouch opened the score for Iroquois and 5 minutes later Dave Collins put Iro- quois ahead by two goals tilI Nick Muschella cut down the lead by one goal. Danny Love put Iro- quois ahead by 2 goals again to end the first haîf 3 toi1 for Iroquois. In the second haîf weý saw Garret Grootnook playing goal for Witby and Barney' Defreitas playing goal for D.O.C. coming with some good saves but Guy Mozzata put D.O.C. dloser from a rebound in front of the net. Jeff Reddon did not miss when he received a perfect pass from Doug Love to give Iroquois a 2 goal lead again. In the last 5 minutes both teains tried and, came close to scorîng and it was Brian D even-- yr who put the baîl in the net to end the- game Whitby Iroquois, A4 D.O.C. 3. .HoSJI.S. beat A.C.V.I.' In the Ontario School- boy Curling Playdowns, the Henry Street team won the Division È Championship by defeating the cross town rival team froin Ander- son Collegiate Sunday, January 24. Henry's team corn- posed 0f Steve Ennis (skip), Chris Rusch, Ian Ward and Peter Finlay lost one game in the first round of the tournament to the Anderson team with members Real Bergevin (skip), Ross Weldon, John Carrol and Craig Weldon. An- derson had previously defeated the Uxbridge entry. In the double knock- out, the Henry team ehi- minated the Uxbridge team then had to defeat the Anderson team twice to take the champ- îonship. The Henry Street team wil advance to the Inter-divisional Champ-
