B.-H.S. Feb. report By MARGARET BEATH, BHS Dfrector A very interesting evening was held by the Brooklin Horticultural Society on Wednesday, Fehruary 24. President Lyla Allan openedthe meeting and welcomed members and guests, followed by singing of the National Anthem. Secretary Joan Brak read the minutes of the last meeting and sever- al announcements of forthcoming events. She also read a com- munication from the Ontario Horticultural Association congratu- lating the Brooklin society on its numerous activities and contri- bution to horticulture in this area. The president then announced the flower arranging course to ho held in the Concept Cen- tre on April 6, 13, 20 and 27. This was a very popular course in 1981 and you are urged to cal). Joan Brak or Valerie Hundert if you wish to participate. .. Lyla then introduce d the speaker for the evening, Joan Rich- of Whitby, who gave a talk on African Violets. She had some on display which were part of her own collection of over 500. That Mrs. Rich had an excellent store of knowledge of her chosen subject was evident and she gave some very helpful hints on growing and propogating these beautiful plants. Valerie Hundert then informed the group that we now have 17 Junior members in our society and there will bo a work- shop on "Dish Gardons" held on Saturday, Mar- ch 6, in the Concept Cen- tre, for this youth group. Refreshments followed, served by Mary Housego. Our next meeting will ho held on March 24, when Mr.- W. Bradbury will speak on "wild- flowers". The ladies of the society are requested to bring something for the bake sale which will ho held in conjunction with this meeting.
