Actualiy, Ander- son played host to a day full of exciting events for many young visitors from across the Durham Region. The visitors were eager grade eight students and curlous grade 2's and 3's.' The future grade 9's were making a*reconn- aissance tour of Ander- son. Upon arrivai they were, ushered into the cafeteria and they were informed by, guidance services about choosing the right courses for their first year. The contest involved over, 35,000- students from 1,200 schoois in Canada. The' resuits of the contest, written before Marcb break, have just arrived. In the Pascal Math Con- test for grade 9's, our school placed 32nd out of' 37 schools with Ramona Martens, Laurie Ricciuto and Melvin Calanglang as our bighest scorers. in the Fermat Math Contest for grades 10 and 11, DO'C placed 25th ouf 0f 35 schoois. DOC's highest marks in the Fermat Contest were achieved by Daniel Fauteux, Cindy Davies and Kathy Mac- Dougail. DOC's iatest competition, the Rubik's Cube Con- test, bas been completed. Thirty-six contestants participated. Emerging fromn two rounds of stiff copttion were eight fnlss hs finalistsdi the puzzle wiceî ding a third rou'n-d jalndtheir bst time was recorded. The winner'0f the contest was Dan Timothy, followed by Jofid Mijares and Danilo Chiappe. Blue House emerged as the victors of this event with 29 intramurai points. -' The "'444 Club" Lottery bas been introduced once again this year. This is one of DOC's special fund- raising programs. The 444 tickets seil at $50 eacb and there are 10 chances to win $1,000., There are two- additional chances to win $500 after :ail the tickets are sold. 'The draws will be made each Thursday starting May 20 and ending June 17. Last year one of our homerooms bought 'a ticket and won $1,000. Maybe we'l bhave the same luck this year. The girls' soccer team bas just started their new'- season. The track team bas also started spring training for its many upcoming events. Some of our DO'C students attended an April Fool's dayé~'eebration at Durham Centre with our local Youth Corps. Next, the prefects took them on a tour to see the many courses that are not, available at, their present school. This in- cluded the technical and auto shops, typing rooms 'and science rooms. Meanwhile, the younger pupils from South Simcoe School were treated to a day of gym games and snacks by the Athletic Associa- 'wmu tion. The thirty-one youngsters played mur- der bail, floor hockey- and participated in ob- stacle courses. After a snack in the cafeteria they went back.to the gym to use ail the var- tous sports equipment. The afternoon was spent bowling. Both the A.S.A.A. and the child- ren thoroughly enjoyed. themselves.
