Director "'Spring Song" was the appropriate theme for the spring fiower show held by the Brook- lin Horticultural Society on May 26 and featured some beautiful tulips and other early spring flowers. President Lyla Alian welcomed members and guests from Whitby, Oshawa and Orono and Margaret Davis intro- duced the post mistres froni Brookiin and her mother, Mrs. Griffin -froni England. AI Foss, District 17 director, was also a welcome visitor. Joan Brak made severai announcements -for future activities in- cluding the Annuai On- tario Horticuitural Assot. : .ýion Convention being held in Guelph on June 16, 17 and 18. Veronica Colangelo, a new member, asked for assistance in the Civic Beautification, of which she is director. Lyla then turned over Tapestry of Talent Toastmsrs theme Byv BETTY DUBOWSKI "'Tapestry of Talent" was the 'theme of the last regular meeting of the Whitby Toastmts- tress Club. The atm was to "lbelong, participate and succeed" Hostesses Lee Hewttt and Betty Dubowski greeted members and guests on arrivai and president Aithea Dar- wen extended a warm welcome to the assem- bly. Grace and toast was gtven by Helen Hines and everyone en- joyed a tasty dinner. Topicmistress Nancy Spencer requested one- minute impromptu speeches from ten parti- cipants and instructed them to Ilbrag a littie" about their special ta- lent. Members divulged talents heretofore un- known by others, such as the world's greatest basebali, player (Paul- mhe Torresan) and an author with a, nom-de- plume (Lee Hewitt) . However, the trophy for the best mini-speech was awarded to asso- ciate, member Jean Martin, who is (for the record) a prima baller- ina. The business session then got underway and this includes the even- ing's htghlight which was the -election of the 1982-83 executive. The new board members are asfollows: president Lee Hewtt; first vice- president and pro- gramme chairnian, Shirley MacDonald; se- cond vice-president and membership chairinan, Betty Dubowski;, secre- tary, Barbara Blair; treasurer, Fay Winters; and delegate to council, Nancy Spencer. Mfter a ten-minute r e- ceas, Toastmistress Myrna Picotte presen- ted the speakers for the evening as foilows: Audrey Beard with a prepared speech and Fay Winters with a book report. These awards were presented by Council 2 of inter- national Toastmistress Clubs to the club with the highest1 attendance (percentage) at council meetings during the current term and main- tenance 0f a club's historical records ~i~p which, in this case, truly reflected a "t.apestry of talent" as created by Whitby's club historian, Lee Irwin. The final meeting of the current term for this club will take place on Tuesday, June 22, 1982, at the Earl of Durham Restaurant, 227 Brock Street South, Whitby, commencing with Fellowship at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $7.
