1983 ChryserlLe Baron Chrysler LeBaron mid-size luxury is avail- able in four distinctive front-wheel-drive ver- sions for 1983, with an expanded range of standard and optional equipment, new ex- terior colour choices and proven four-cylin- der fuel economy. LeBaron offers an ap- pealing combination of high style, luxury and a quiet, comfortable ride in an efficiency-sized package with,, agile handling and front- wheel-drive roadability. A four 1983 Chrysler LeBarons are built on a 2,543 mm (100.1 inch) wheelbase and are of- fered in a single pile- mium price class. A 2.6 litre four-cylin- der engine with Mitsu- bishi's "Silent Shaft" counterbalancing fea- ture is optionally avail- able in all 1983 LeBarons. LeBaron provides a smooth, quiet ride with a refined "precision control" suspension, specially-tuned steel- belted radial tires and a newly-tailored "quiet control" sound package. New Chrysler Le- Baron features for 1983 include a standard Elec- tronic Voice Alert sys- tem, an optional elec- tronic travel computer, standard "optical horn", digital clock, halogen headlamps, an improved heater/forced air ventilation system with added ram-air out- lets, wide rear bumper guards, AM radio, tethered fuel filler cap, higher-output battery, power front disc brakes and self-adjusting rear brakes. Full trunk dress-up package, cor- nering lamps and ac- cent tape stripes are also standard on all ex- cept Town & Country, while Town & Country, and sedan and hardtop- models, also have a map/reading light built into the dome light. The Electronic Voice Alert, or audible mes- sage centre, is a com- puter-controlled warn- ing system that "speaks" to the driver through theradio speak- er when an abnormal condition is detected. The system monitors 10 separate functions, including engine temp- erature and oi pres- sure, windshield washer fluid level, door ajar, headlights on, fuel sup- ply, among other items. The electronic travel computer - tells time; date, monitors fuel con- sumption, distance tra- velled or kilometres/ miles to empty. The "optical horn" feature permits the driver to flash the head- lights off and on. During daylight driving, with the headlights switched off, when the multi- function stalk on the steering column is drawn toward the steer- ing wheel rim, the head-, lights will come on and remain illuminated as long as the lever is held in its spring-loaded pósi- tion. Front bucket seats, in "velvet" cloth, with free-standing centre armrest, are standard on Chrysler LeBaron sedans and specialty hardtops, and on Chrys- 1er Town and Country wagons, and provide seating for five. A luxur- ious premium level cen- trei armrest front bench seat, also in "velvet" cloth, is available on these models at no extra charge and affords seat- ing for six. Low-back bucket seats, in deluxe vinyl with adjustable headrests, are standard on the convertible, as is the free-standing centre armrest. An optional Mark Cross Edition converti- ble package includes unique low-back adjust- able designer bucket seats with saddle lea- ther inserts. A Mark Cross option for the sedan and wagon in- cludes a new luxury 50/50 front seat in lea- ther, with individual in- board armrests and con- solettes, dual recliners, and seat back map/ magazine pockets. The Mark Cross Edi- tion convertible pack- age also includes a lea- ther-wrapped luxury steering wheel, bi-level air conditioning, vari- able-delay intermittent wiper system, and power windows, deck lid and door locks. The Town and Coun- try Station Wagon has the distinctive "woody" exteriòrstylinr cargo compartment dress-up, a cargo compartment light and dome/reading light.
