This spirit of commu- nity relations 18 with us ail year long in the formn of the Whitby Lions Club, who for almost twenty-five years have given of their time and efforts in various en- deavours for the good of people less fortunate. The safety of our children is one concern, andi the Lions Club has donated two Police Safe- ty vans during this time, and every year has provided the necessary funds for the Police Safety Patrol school crossing guards throughout the town. Your local Lions have always had a 'soft spot' for the elderly and a few years ago donated a piano for the enjoyment of the residents of the Whitby Seniors Activi- ties Centre. We ail help to entertain them for. a few hours, and the 'personal in-ý volvement leaves us al in a good frame of mmnd. It's not just the wine 1 The major activities of both Lions and Lion- esses have always been towards the sponsoring of the National Institute for the Blind, (CNIB), both by fund raising and wi th activities with the Leader Dog School, pic- nics for the blind and assisting with their var- ions functions. The same holds true for the Hearing, Impair- ed programs, the Heart Fund, Cancer Fund, and many others, such as assistance to those suf- fering from a rare skin disease, which necessi- tates, hospitalization in Germany at the "Vital Klinik" under Dr. Enescu and Pavel Kazak. Over the years Our other contributions of note include a resuscita- tion unit to the St. Johns Ambulance service; donations to J.O. Ruddy medical complex; on- going support for the educational bursaries, various picnics, senior citizens outings; con- stant involvement in Health Awareness pro- jects, bath in testing citizens for physical fit- ness and in running acti- vities such as "'Run for Fitness", and walking support of "Miles for Millions Walkathons", and many civic im- provement projects. The funds raised for aur past fiscal year re- INVITATIONS sulted ln disbursements of more than- $6,00o, shared by the varions recipients mentioned. To make these contribu- tions, the Whltby Lions Club mnst be canstantly holding fund-raising ac- tivities and draws, .and while the people of Whitby are nsually in sympathy with aur ef- forts and cheerfully donate when asked, we can always use more help from concerned citizens, and the best way to do this would be to offer your services to a Lion Club member for sponsorship in our world-wide service or- ganization. elle gcstaurait a/fyd 66c-2811 1009 Dundas St. E., Whitby Mo nday, Tuesday & Wed nesday Specials tili1 Jan. 5183.
