Durham -Produce, located on Dundas St. W. just pass the Whitby Museum, bas opened its doors to provide customers with year- round fresh produce. The store, forxnerly known as the Green World Garden Centre, is concentrated largely on fruit and vegetable but plants and flowers are available. Bryan Denbok, who runs the business along with father Tom, says the store is trying to ob- tain as much of its goods as possible from area growers. The Denboks belleve that to be successful in~ this area, they must fir- st establish a good reputation. "I think we'll be a success," said Bryan. "There's a lot of people in Whitby. It just takes a little time to let people know you're here. Wç would like to establish a good reputation with good quality and service and we'llstand by this. " Business bas been good on weekends ac- cording to Bryan with strawberries especially selling well.. The store hours are from 9 to 8:30 on week- days and from 9 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Free Press Staff Photo Marigold Contest deadline, WHITBY-Gardeners are reminded that there are less than two weeks lef t to enter the Whitby Chamber of Commerce Marigold Contest. Deadllne for sub- mission entries is July 25. One winner will be chosen from each of six categories: residential, institutional, small and, large commercial and small' and large in- dustriàl. Entry forms and boxes to put them inare available at the garden centres in the. K-Mart and Woolco Plazas, Weali and Cullen Nur- sertes, Sheridan Nur- series, Oshawa Garden Centre (Dundas and Thickson Road locations), White Rose Nursery, Sun Gold Fruit Market, Whitby Dominion Hardware, 319 Brock Street South, and the Chamber of Conmmerce office in the Centennial Building., Judging wil be on Aug. 22 andi 23, based on design and layout, general health and con- dition, quality -of main- tenance and plant display. The winners in each category must agree to permit visitors from a bus tour te view their gardiens on Sept. 10 and, il as part of the Whitby Marigold Festival. Prizes for the winners will be keeper trophies and a free dinner for two at the awards night at Cullen Gardiens on Sept. 9. The winners' names wiJI also be engraved on' a plaque te be displayed by the Chamber of Commerce.- The marigold contest is open to allbusinesses and residents of-Whitby.
