This year, the marbies went to Bramn- pton for both the Tyke and Novice Champion- shlp, and the Peewee Championship was won by Clarkson. In the Novice age group, Scarboro played the part of the spoiler as they upset, Whitby &-4 and Brampton 6.5. Whitby Optimists had lost another game 8-3 to Hailton before recovering from the eh- ock. Their teain pride was partially restored by a 9-2 win over the novices from. Beaches. The Optimists jumped into an early 3-0 lead over Brampton but relaxed too early as Brampton was leading 6-3 by the end of the second perlod. Wbitby came back strongly in the third period to. almost tie the gaine, final score was 6-. Whtiby scorers were three each by Alan Frank, Jason Pitters, Matt Shearer and Den- nis Directo, two each by Derek Elîls, Matt Cook, and David Wood with one by Bul Robinson. The Whltby ldeaway Peewees started with a strong 10-3 win over Etobicoke but then had difficulty. After losses like 7-4 to Mississauga, 9-2 to Burllngton and 6-4 to Huntsvile, they would rather just go for a good swlm and wat for next tUrne. The scoring summary for the Hldeaway was six for Adam Foote, three by Jeff Whittle, two each by Andrew Vanderlinde, Chris Tucker, Chris Page and Derek Jones with singles by Brad Tley, Mark Ainsworth and Paul Windover. Novices win Arthur tournament BY TOM FRANK The Whitby Minor Novices won the Arthur Novice Lacrosse tour- nament last Saturday. London showed thein that lacrosse is a fast game as they jumped into a five goal lead but then Whitby's defence dug in while the offen- sive went to work for a 10-7 win. Derks started the scoring in this very physical gaine and Vipond added three for an 8-3 win. The referees could truly be called "homers"' in Brooklin last -ýWed- nesday as the Whitby minor Novices visited the Whitby major Novices. The Optimist majors won 11-3. Scoring for the minors, were Kelly Vipond, Craig Shannon and Jonas Derks. Optirnis 'ta goals were by Rob Mar- tin with four, David Wood with three, Alan Frank with two, Dennis. Directo and Matt Shearer. The minor Peewees' also visited the major Whitby Peewees and surprised them by holding the score to 2-1 for over half the gaine. Minor scoreres were Chris Husted, Steve Mercer and Garrett Campbell. The majors won 9-3 with two goals each by Chris page and Derek Jones, singles by Keith Pruneau, Chris-Tucker, Julie Kernohan, Adamn Foote and Jeff Whittle. The ref's can be >"homers" again at the return matches at Iroquois this coming Thursday, July 21. J~ First City Midgets were tied at seven with Scarbor> but won 15-11 with some beautiful passing plays. Gary Mark scored seven, Greg Lepine had four, Troy Brodhagen had two with other scores by jeff Page and Chris Ain- sworth. The Tyke Redmen loet 8-5 to Beaches at Ted Reeves Arena with two goals each by Shaydon Santos and -Mike Massey, and one by Scott MacDoneil. The Optimist Novices downed Peterboro 8-2 with pairs by Jason Pit- ters and Chris Thomn- pson, others by David Wood, Rob Martin, Matt Cook and Matt Shearer.
