The WGR team competed in "B" division. 1This team, sponsored by The Hideaway, lost their first game 6-4 to Port Coquitlani, B.C. Jeff Whittle geored two with' other goale by Keith Primeau and Brad TIley."' The Hideaways broke a third period tie to win 7-6 over Huntsville. Derek- Jones and Prîmeau had two each with othere marks by Todd Wilson, Chris Page and Mark Smith. They didn't'have muc'h trouble with'the Anjou, Quebec team as they won 15-2. Jones scored four, three by Andrew Vanderlinde, two each by Mark Ainsworth and Adam Foote and singles by Brian MacDoneil, Chris Tucker, Page and Tiley. They walked ,over Kitchener 13-4 as Jones found the net five-trnes, Foote twice and others by Tiley,' Tuýcker, Smlth, Wilson, Page and Primeau. on the fifth day of play, Spartan jumped into an early lead but with good defence from players like Julie Kernohan and-Paul Windover and an extra big effort from goalie Shawn Emmerton, Whitby took the game 10-8. 1 Foote and Wilson had two goale each, wlth singles by Tiley, Sith, Tucker, Jones, Prirneau and Mac- Doneil. In the semi-finale, Whitby defeated a more détermined Kitchener 8-4. Wilson and Tucker had pairs while Foote, Jones Ainsworth and Page com- pleted the scoring. The final for the gold medal was againet Hun- tsville who had won the "B" division at the Ontario Provinciale. The game wae back and forth with Whitby scoring the winning goal with only 2:28 remaining on the dlock. The Hideaways had won the national box lacrosse championship 7-61 Whitby scorers were Wilson and Jones with two each and singles by Tucker, Foote and Vanderlinde. The bench personnel for these champions are Coach Chuck Lepine, Ast-manager Ed Jones and Manager Gord Tueker. The Bantam, team had a tougher time at the National Bantam Lacrosse Playdowns which are held in Gloucester, Ontario this year. There were 10 team competing ln the "A" division. Perhaps the Whitby team didn't have enough time to get their concentration and intensity back after winming the Ontario championship the day before the nationale. Perhaps they sustained too many bumpe and bruises in their firet game against Peterboro who had been embarassed by two straight losses at the provinciale. Robert Paddick, Cornish and Emery Campbell scored two each while Steve Dyment, Rich Dyment, Steve Nolan and Dean Vanderlinde had singles. They were surprised 10-6 by Niagara-on-the-Lake. WGR goals were by Campbell, Steve and Rich Dyment, Tom Frank, Cornish and Vansickle. The fourth game was tied four times until Bram- pton won 8-5. Cornish had a pair with help from Simon Lewis, Vanderlinde and Vansickle. Chris Keilar scored the firet and the last goale in an 11-8 win over Orangeville.
