In their final regular season Durham Youth League Soccer Game, Checkers Variety, Whitby's Minor Mosquito- Rep Tean took on Oshawa Italia. In the opening' 15 minutes Whitby pressed hard but some fine work by the Oshawa Goalie kept them at bay. The Oshawa team fought back, but the first haîf ended with no score. The second haîf was a different story however as a fine piece of finishing from Steve, Vanderhayden 1gave Checkers a 1-0 lead five minutes into the haif, and fromn this point Whitby neyer 'looked back. Oshawa .played bard but Scott -Wood scored two goals and' Neil Henehan and Jason Leesui scored one each. This made' the final resuit 5-0. Mark Basile played a strong game for Whitby. This' gives 'the Checkers team 21 points for the season for a four- th place finish in their- league. The Whitby team now starts its playoff cani- paign with a home game against Peterborough September 6 at "Peel Park.
