WH'itBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 14. 1983, PAGE 17 Local employment conditions The nuznber of people unemployed and registered for work at the Canada Em- ployment Centres in Ajax, Whltby$ and Oshawa during Novemn- ber has increased from 14,567 in 1982 to 16,846 in 1983, according to data compiled by the Oshawa Canada Employment Centre. However, November placements in the three offices also, rose from Iast year's total of 348 to 685 in 1983. The majority of clien- ts for last month were registered in' Material Handllng and rcilated; Transportation Equip- ment Operatlng; Con- struction Trades; Produce Fabricating, Assembling and Repairlng; Machinery and related; Sales; Ser- vice.; Clerical and related. The greatest em- ployment opportumities existed iManufac- turing of Transportation equipment; Special Trade Contractors; Retail Trade; Accom- modation and Food Ser- vice during the same period. There were 23 trainees in Industrial- Training Progranis, 17 short term and six ap- prentices, at a cost of $95e803. At the end of Novem- ber this year, there were 231 students in the skili courses sponsored by the Canada Em- ployment Centre and 60 people receiving upgrading at Durham College.
