I if By TOM FRANK Publlclty Director W.G.R.M.L.A.. The Whltby Garrard Road Minor Lacrosse Association is again sponsoring a pre-season lacrosse school. -e One of the reasons for the school is because of the increasing popularity of lacrosse not only across the province but especially in the Whitby area. Parents and kids just can't stop talking about lacrosse' and the fun they had last season. The objectives of the lacrosse school are to teach basic bail han- ding skills such as pick- ups, cradllng, shooting, passing and catching. Concitioning will be emphasized tbroughout the program using al the many running techniques required in the game. W.M .B.A. needs, coaches f'or ,'84 The Whitby Minor Basebail Association is now accepting ap- plications for coaching positions on their tyke and bantam represen- tative teams. 1Interested persons are asked to submit a resume to the association, in care of P.O. Box 81, Whitby, LMN 5R7 or caîl Dave Imeson at 668-9790. Sorne of the programs will make use of films and labelle cassettes as teaching aids for the boys and girls. Our em- phasis on the develop- ment of skills in our school system has helped the association produce two Canadian National Championship teams and three Ontario Provincial Champion- ship teams. The association believes that the'school can attract new players, and further raise the skill level of lacrosse in Wbitby. It provides parents and -new children the opportunity to be introduced to the sport before the season begins. Parents are en- couraged to corne and see the sessions with their children s0 that the skills taught in the school can be reinforced at home. The schedule is for 10- two hour sessions each session to be held once a week beginming the week of Jan. 30. The cost of the program wifl be $20 per child for ten sessions. Gym equipment, helmet, gloves and sticks will be required. We wil advise players and parents on sticks and equipment selec- tion. If parents wish to gauge the level of in- terest ln their child before, they register they can bring the child to a session to observe the school. For more information cail Tom Frank at 668- 4270.
