Tickets are nowi on sale fora- captain's chair used at the County Reglstry Office by On- tario County's first Registrar of Deeds, John Ham Perry. John Ham Perry, second- son of Whitby's founder Peter Perry, was Registrar from 1853 until his death in 1896. It is believed that- the chair he used dates back at least to the time he took office 131 years ago. In 1929 when the Reglstry Offle was reorganized and an ad- dition constructed, each of the three employees was permitted to take home a piece of fur- niture. W. J. Correil, the deputy registrar, chose the captain's chair and it has been in the Correl home on Byron Street ever since. When the Whitby Historical Society' decided to have a Bicen- tenniai Bail at Trafalgar Castie Sehool, Çorrell's daughter, Eleanor Correll donated the- chair to the historical soclety to be used at their discretion. After considerable restoration and removal of many layers of paint the chair is now in its original condition. Starting Juneé 23, it will be on disphay in the window of Judy's Flowers on Brock Street South. The historical society is selllng ti ckets on this chair at one dollar ýeach to raise fun- ds, for its museuxn at Lynde House and the archives in the Centen-, niai Building.. Tickets are available at Judy's .Fiowers and by phoning 579-3656 or 668-3460. Speaking to You By SCOTT FENNELL (PC - Ontario) ,r~NVILLAGE CHRYSLERIý-,, 1'Ymouffi, CHRLER FINAL 1,l HWY NO 2 CD 'ilage Plymouth Chrysier rcr Aiai You will recail, two months ago I discussed the problems that I have been having in getting any ac- tion from Canada Post. Well things haven't changed. On the average, it still takes Up to fourteen days for mail to get from my riding to Ottawa. The only difference now is we are paying double the price for this service., Canada Post has been in operation now for almost three years, and I don't feel that Michael Warren ,can be congratulated for any accomplishments. We ahl realised that he faced a difficuit challenge, and we gave hlm a chance. But to date, there are still many new developmen- ts in Ontario Riding, (some which have been estabiished for over two years), which are still waiting for door-to-door delivery. Yet in, March of this year, a local newspaper announced that various new sub-divisions in Ottawa would have door-to- door delivery by July. The newspaper went on to comment. that some of the residents had been waiting for delivery since the fail of 1983. 1 im- mediately wrote to Mr. Warren and pointed out to hime that many of the residents i Ontario Riding have been waiting for over two years!1 Mr. Warren did not dignify my letter with a response. This has become the typical attitude of Mr. Warren and his assistants - no response. If a decision on> a particular area iOntario Riding has been reached, such as the Pickering Place Apartments, I am always the hast -one to be notified by telephone and i writing - the local Liberals are usually apprised of any new develop-. ments in advance. I find this attitude not only frustrating, but very insulting. One would think that a Crown Corporation would continuahly discuss local matters with the federal representative, but I shouldn't forget - that isn't how politics works. Canada Post, -being a, Crown Corporation, basically doesn't have to answer to anyone. There is a Minister who is responsible, Andre Ouellett, but if nothing else he is only a figure-head. Meanwhile, it Is the taxpayers who are the ones who suffer neediessly because of this mess. Just- to keep you up-dated with the iatest devehopments, I contacted Mr. Warren's office on June 7 and enquired about the "review" for postal delivery for'the Fraser Heights Co-op and Westney Heights. I was told that -the review hadn't been compieted, and to cail back in two weeks. This was the same answer I got tw~o weeks ago' - need I remind you that last fail Mr. Warrent stated that Westney Heights would have postal delivery in the spring? So much for increased efficienty - I, think the Pony Express would provide better and cheaper service.
