Ail teams are now competing in a play-off series of round robin pools culminating in semi-final games to be played on Sept. 17 (Squirts and Atomn),and Sept. 18 (Mosquito and Peewee) with finals on Sept. 22. These wili be piayed at Peel Park at the following times: squirts, 10 a.m.; atom, il a.m.; mosquito, 12:30 p.m.; Peewee, 2 p.m.; and, bantam, 3:15 p.m. The club looks for- ward to a large group at the various games to encourage the boys. Trophies for ail league and cup cham- pions will he presented at our end of season banquet at Heydenshore Pavillion on Oct. 21. The 1984 season con- cludes with the annuai generai meeting on a date yet to be arranged in late October or early November. Cheekers earns place * ifinals By TONY VICKERS Whitby Checkers Variety major mosquito soccer team met Ajax Warriors at Iroquois Park in Durham Cup semi-final action last week. Play was mainiy con- centrated in the mid- field for most of the first haîf. However, in the 2Oth minute Colin Man- son volleyed home a cross from Adam McKenzie to put the Whitby team one up. Being 1-O down at the st.art of the second haif, the Ajax team pressed hard and came close to tying the game on several occasions, but the Whitby defence held. Finally Manson put the game away for Checkers with a fine shot from the left with six minutes to go. Ajax had no answer and the final score was Whitby 2, Ajax O. Brent Jamieson got a well deserved shut-out in the Whitby goal. Whitby now advances to the Durham Cup Final to be played Sept. 15 in Ajax. WGR tykes win silver medal By DOROTHY MEHTA It was another close caîl for Whitby Garrard Road Tyke team win- ning four out of six games that saw them finalists in the provin- cial "B" champion- ships. It was not an easy route for them* and they gave it their best shot. They got off to an ex- Ml 30 Yearof[Spînt cellent start with a 15-0 win over Guelph giving goalie Jamie Hogel a well deserved shut out. Whitby had a 6-2 win against Brampton with Wayne Primeau, Rohan Mehta and Donnie. Wilkinson scoring two, goals each. It was Whitby's third game of the day and a tired team iost 3-6 to the much more alert Spar- tans. AIl three Whitby goals were scored by Wayne Primeau. The most exci'ting game of the tournament had to be the 5-4 win against the Beaches in overtime. Primeau scored two goals while Mehta and Jeff Kolesnikowicz con- tributed one goal a piece. The winning goal was a brilliant shot made by Michael Burrows putting Whitby into the semi-finals against Mimico. Another victory for Whitby 6-1, Wayne Primeau responsible for five goals 'and Mehta scoring the other. The second ioss of the weekend for Whitby came in the "B"' cham- pionship finals against Hamilton. The tykes put Up a valiant fight with Primeau and Matthew Sorichetti scoring for Whitby. They finished the year on a positive note bringing home a silver "B" finalist trophy.
