WHITBY FREE PRESS 0 mm wm LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Reader-says she'd rather be afoolfor Christ Dear Sir: Your recent article entitled 'Fundamen- talists are attacking freedom', has prompted me to clarify some of your obvious biases. I quote, "...has reached beyond the Kingdomof God into the Kingdom of Man." Any Christian who prays the Our Father prays that '...Thy Kingdom come'. DOWN In the last few years, down has been used more and more to keep out the cold and also to To take you seriously would then mean that their prayers had been answered. I'm sorry to dissilusion you, but what we have here today is the Kingdom of Man. No one, except the Christians is worried about the separation between God and Man. It becomes very clear to those who read God's word, that those who are not governed by the Law of God will be ruled by tyrants. Check to see that the seams are well sewn. Also, repair any rips and tears before cleaning. 2. Note the fullness or lack of fullness of the quilted channels. More loft gives more warmth. 3. Select a garment quilted in both direc- tions for better wearlife. 4. Inspect the surface of the garment for tiny feathers protruding through the fabric. 5. How is it that the largest religious institution in the world solely enjoys the position of church and statehood. The Roman Catholic Chur- ch, has embassies all over the world and governs (politically) from the Vatican. The Pope, hold the title of care instructions. After purchasing, clean your down gar- ment frequently to remove soil and freshen both the fabric and the down. Drycleaning will prevent stains from set- ting in the fabric. Be sure to point out heavy soil to the cleaner for pre-spotting and removal without damage. The down filling will withstand both drycleaning and washing. The care in- structions with your garment offers the best procedure. The con- trolled cycles of drycleaning are best for wide quilted patterns and delicate garments. DUNDAS ST. chief of state and is given political honors and reception befitting the chief of state (the Vatican State). How is it that a representative from the Vatican (a church) of am- bassadorial rank to the United States, with a title no less-apostolic pro-nuncio - Archbishop Pio Laghi, is allowed as of last November when Congress repealed a law forbidding a U.S. diplomatic mission at the Vatican, to openly influence a President of the United States. If this is not truly not only at- tempting to narrow the separation of Church and State, it would seem to me is a marriage of church and state. But with what church or pardon me, institution? The Catholie In- stitution would like to think she speaks on the behalf of all Christen- dom but I must say in all sincerity she speaks only on her own behalf - Rome. When you say things like, "What they meant was that these books didn't conform to their sense of what was right and wrong," it is made increasingly clear that many people are speaking the same vocabulary but using a different dictionary. I believe what the fundamentalists can be accused of is trying to get back to basics, using the Bible as their road map, and well it should be. I quote you "Falwell and his ilk have laun- ched an all out attack on the mind of man." Falwell is not the only way our minds are being attacked. You must admit the battle is for the mind, everybody's is somebody's fool. So who's fool are we going to be? Have your choice. Frankly, I'd rather be a - fool for Christ. But that requires a lot of study. "Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of God." I congratulate you as a journalist, who prizes freedom of speech, though and opinion. I agree that we must never allow any organization, political or religious, to succeed in any attempt to restrict our freedom. Have you noticed who it is that yells the most 'hate literature' (restricing our freedom of speech) for none dares call it truth. Some people's eyes are opened to the real threat of church and state, but when they raise their voice 'the institution' yells 'hate, hate'. By the way, Canada now has a 'doyen' in Ot- tawa, similar to Washington's pro- nuncio, (a big brother's eye in our diplomacy). You do well to be con- cered about these mat- ters. Politics is in itself a religion. Did you know that when the first English translation of the bible was completed by Wycliffe he wrote "The Bible is translated and shall make gover- nment of people, by people, for people." How can we attempt to govern nations when we have not learned how to govern ourselves. We've thrown away the handbook. If man does not govern himself accor- ding to the law of God, he will be ruled by tyrants. I must tell you that I have read your letter to several people who missed it in the press, and you made me very concerned, because I realize what a respon- siblity so-called Christian organizations have. Yes, some time they can cause more harm than good, because the way they go about it. I realize there are many more moral men and women, just as concerned about moral issues, and are easily put off of so-called religious do-gooders. But if we could ignore the names by which we identify ourselves with and contend with the issue at hand, recognizing the fact that those that are with us are also the ones that are not against us, and unite in purpose, not in identity, thereby becoming an organism, rather or as apposed to some organization. But do we not then need to know what the basics are? The Foundation? Could it not be that the pegs have been knocked out from under society. Hence the need for sub- stitutes. Hedonism, oc- cult, humanism, even demonology. Yes, I admit there is a need to study these 'Fundamentalists' like all pied pipers, but there is a greater need to discern those who would ensnare us much more subtly. Most of the fun- damentà lists are 'up- front' but the enemy of peace are those who put up a smoke-screen while they are boiling the frog alive. You probably heard that one. If you tried to boil a frog a live he would just jump out, but if you put him in warm water and gradually kept in- creasing the heat he would be boiled alive before he kwew it. Thanking you for your time and commending you on having the guts to discuss these touchy issues. Hoping we will all be more responsible and aware of these momentous times we are living in.
