PAGE 2, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1984, WIITBY FREE PRESS $45.9 million in building permiIts issued to date Whitby's growth con- tinued to outpace the 1983 level during November, develop- ment figures released by Mayor Bob Atter- sley's office last week show. During the month, some $4.92 million worth of building permits were issued bringing the value of all construction in the Town of Whitby to date in 1984 to $45.9 million. At the end of Nov., 1983, Whitby's growth reached $39.34 million. Over 95 per cent of the permits issued in November - valued at $4.11 million - were for the construction of residential units. Some 71 permits were issued which is down from Nov., 1983's total of 301. However, in Nov. 1983, permits were issued for the construction of 248 apartment units and only 53 were issued for single family homes. As of Nov. 30 permits were issued for the con- struction of 689 single family homes. As of Nov. 30, 1983, permits had been issued for 517 single family homes. Those 689 permits had a value of $38.83 million while 1983's 765 permits (including the 248 apar- tment units) had a value of $31.5 million. LET'S SEEYOU DO IT... OUTDOORS! As of the end of November, permits for commercial develop- ment had reached $3.82 million which is slightly down from 1983's year- to-date total of $4.13 million. Industrial permits as of the end of last month are also down over last year. Last year, $1.06 million in permits had been issued while this year to date $907,350 in permits were issued. Agricultural develop- ment has taken a nose dive when compared to last year. To date in '84, $88,500 in permits have been issued. Last year that figure was $312,000. Institutional develop- ment is holding its own. As of Nov. 30, $2.25 million in permits had been issued. This com- pares with $2.32 million during the same period last year. In releasing the figures, Mayor Bob At- tersley said it was proof of Whitby's "steady growth." "We seem to be on a roll," he said, "What we don't pick-up at the end of this year, we'll pick- up at the beginning of next year.
