As of Sunday mid- night they bettered their previous record of 415 consecutive days without a lost-time in- cident. This represents 9.7 million manhours without a lost-time in- cident in six major plan- ts and at 25 other operating and office sites across the country. "Ever since our com- pany was established safety of operation has been a primary com- mitment," said president Ted Newall. The 260 employees at the Du Pont Ajax Site have worked 13 years without a lost-time in- jury, and the 300 em- ployees at the Whitby Site will complete two years without such an injury in February, 1985. "The results our people obtained in 1984 have not just hap- pened," said Newall. 'They are the product of a determined effort on the part of the whole organization to main- tain safety beyond com- promise. "Our company star- ted in Canada by working with blasting powder and nitroglycerine based high explosives for mining, railways and construction. From the beginning, safety was emphasized in every procedure. Today we're still dealing with ex- plosives, and also with many other chemical and mechanical processes which we are determined to operate safely and we are com- mitted to improve on our safety record in the future". Social planning council looking for new ideas for projects The Social Planning Council of Oshawa- Whitby will be contac- ting organizations throughout Oshawa and Whitby during the next month to invite staff members, volunteers and clients to submit ideas for projects dealing with community problems.
