WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1985. PAGE 17 YOUR DINING PLEASURE For something different m try the Red Rooster By MICHAEL KNELL Free Press Staff OSHAWA - Have you ever decided to go out for dinner hankering for something just a littIe different? Have you overdosed on pizza, chicken, .hamburgers, fish and otber pretty standard restaurant fare? Well then, what about trying a little Polish and Ukranian fare? To the best of my knowledge, The Red Rooster at 576 Ritson Rd. S. in that city just to the east of our fare town is the only one of its kind in Durham Region. Manager John Ytowski and bis brother, Steve, decided to open The Red Rooster after seeing the demand Bridge resuits Tbe following are the resuits of last week's play at tbe Whitby Duplicate Bridge Club as reported by Mrs. Jim Mharrie. This popular Chinese restaurant has been ln Whtby for 30 years. The speclalty of the house ls barbe-qued spare-rîbs. A new dlsh is belng ln- troduced. t's a speclal combînatlon of llght hor d'oevres called Bo Bo for Polish and Ukranian- food at the annual Oshawa Fiesta. 4"We figured, we would seli that same style of food aIl year round," he says and so, six years ago, tbey opened the Rooster. It started as a bole-in-the- wall take-out joint but bas since blossomed in- to a fully mature family restaurant. Wile its not a fancy eatery, it is brigbt, airy and comfortable, just the place to-go when heading for the movies or wben you just don't feel like getting into your Sunday best. The service is good and food is truly ex- cellent. When I bad lunch there the other day, I ordered their "Rooster Deluxe", a delightful concoction of cabbage rolîs, shish-ke-bobs, perogies, kaîbasa and kapusta (a mixture of cabbage with other vegetables sucb as carrots, corn and peas). Lunch started with a bowl of borcbt whicb chef Steve Ytowski makes with a kaîbasa stock to which he adds nice chunks of the sausage, potatoes, boiled eggs and onions. There is just the rigbt amount of sour creamn and spîces in the borcht to make it a soup loyers deligbt. Oh. by the way, the sbisb-ke-bobs - are Ukranian style, that is, pork done in a breading that is absolutely won- derful. So don't expect the Greek style wbich is full of chunks of beef and lamb alternated with pieces of pepper, onions and other vegetables. platter. Est ln the dellghtlully decorated Bamboo Room at one of their cir- cular booths. Open Monday t0 Thur- sday tram il arn. to 2 a.m.; Frlday and Satur- day f rom il arn. to 3 a.m. and Sunday tilI il p.m. Fully llcensed and home dellvery. Other items on their cinner menu include "The Red Rooster Dmn- ner" which is a com- binaion of shish-ke- bobs, cabbage roll and perogies and a shish-ke- bob dinner. They also offer chicken and rack Vo ribs dinners as well as a chicken and rib combo, a shrimp and scallop dinner and roast beef and pork chops. The Red Rooster also does an excellent lunch trade and their menu for the mid-day meal is a reflection of their dinner menu with a few ad- ditions. Ail of their Polish and Ukranian specialities are offered as are chicken fingers and four different kinds of san- dwiches ail served on rye bread or a kaiser roll. The Red Rooster also WELLNESS WORKSHOPS The Durhamn Region District Health Coun- cil and the Durham Department of Health Services will hold a "Wellness Workshop for Women" for six weeks beginning April 9.
