They wrapped up the tour- nament defeating Lon- don 4-2 in the finals on goals by Dillan (2) and Primeau (2). The Whitby minor bantam select team lost to West Hill 5-4. Whitby wins consolation final The Durham YMCA's Invitational Men's Basketball Tournament held Feb. 16, was full of excellent basketball for participants as well as spectators. Teams playing in- cluded Whitby, Pickering, Ajax, Bowmanville, Uxbridge and Oshawa. The Durham YMCA team from Whitby was in the consolation final after defeating the Pickering Over 35 team. The Bowmanville team reached the consolation final by eliminating the other Durham YMCA team from Whitby. The consolation final was so evenly matched that it went into double overtime before the Durham YMCA team emerged the victor. PETER BRAMMA Community Services Branch Durham Regional Police Force There were 93 accidents in Whitby during the month of January. If you are in an accident here's what to do: STOP! Every driver involved directly or indirec- tly in an accident must remain at or return im- mediately to the scene of the accident. Drivers are also required to render ail possible assistance and provide their name and address of the registered owner of the vehicle, the vehicle plate number and the pink liability insurance card to the police or anyone sustaining loss or injury. Keep calm and follow these steps: 1. Turn off all vehicle engines and turn on the emergency flashers; 2. Don't let anyone smoke, light a match or place flares near vehicles in case of fuel leak; 3. If any of the vehicles are on fire, remove all oc- cupants, and make sure everyone is well clear; and, 4. You are required by law to call the appropriate law enforcement agency immediately (either the Durham Regional Police at 579-1234 or the O.P.P. Whitby detachment at 668-3388 if the accident oc- curs on Hwy. 401, Hwy. 12 north of Rossland or Hwy. 7) and report the accident if there are any personal injuries, or damage to property exceeding $700. Ask for an ambulance if any injuries needing emergen- cy treatment. The accident scene: Set up warning signais within a distance sufficient to give other traffic enough warning to slow down, or stop. Minor accidents: If the damage is minor (under $700) and both drivers agree that the police are not required (no problem agreeing on whose fault it was, not wanting any charges laid, and no in- juries) make sure the information obtained from other parties involved in the accident includes: -Drivers age, address, phone number and drivers licence number; -Vehicle owners name and address; -Make, type and year of the vehicle; -Vehicle plate number, year and province; -Name of the insurance company, agent and policy number; Note the date, time and location of the accident; and, -Estimated cost of repair to all vehicles involved. By the way, if you are in an accident and are not sure whether to handle it yourself or the other driver cannot produce the proper documents, always call the police right away to be on the safe side. Sometimes, the other driver might be the sort of person that the police should investigate and this type will often insist that the police are not necessary.
