WHITBY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The Whitby Women's Institute held their February meeting at the home of Laura MacCarl, 215 Reedare Crt. The highlight of the meeting was a talk and film presented by Const. Dick Lowell, of the Ontario Provincial Police. The film, entitled, 'Seniors Power and How to Use it', pointed out many of the dangers faced by our seniors, such as purse snat- ching, obsene phone cals, driving hazards as well as safety of the home, and showed how to deal with these problems. Lowell explained and showed the workings of the machine used for testing drunken drivers on the road. He stressed the use of seat beits and the penalty incurred by not using them. For instance, did you know that the driver is responsible for ahl children under 16? If the seat belts are not used, the driver can be fined $53 for each chld, and the adults are responsible for themselves, and must pay their own fines. Homes can be protected by dead boIt locks on doors, windows kept locked at alI times were other suggestions seniors could follow. Josephine Smith thanked Lowell for a most in- teresting and informative presentation. Several matters of business were dealt with. W.W.I. will be responsible for hostessing the South Ontario District W.I1. in Whitby on May 23. It was decided to make a donation to the South On- tario Agricultural Society to provide a prize for the boy or girl receiving the highest number of points in ail categories at the Whitby-Oshawa Fair to be held in July. The next meeting will be held on March 27, 1:30 p.m. at the home of Amelia Pringle, 307 Dunlop St. E. in Wbitby. Hostesses, Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. Noble and Mrs. Mac- Carl served a delicious lunch. BRANCH 112 ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION Card night - the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion wiil hold their regular euchre night on Thursday, March 21, 8 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Byron St. S. in Whitby. Allan Hope of Elizabeth Cres. won a Plymouth Voyager in the Feb. 24 bonus draw. The cars are part of a special promotion featuring 500 Canadian- produced automobiles as bonus prizes in both the Jan. 27 and Feb. 24 draws. The draws also featured regular prizes of $1 million and $100,000 and thousands of other prizes. The car will be presented to the winner at a local dealership within the next few weeks.
