And that's wbat we'll be talking about this week:- something completely different. Instead of talking about thse more conven- tional and traditional Canadian restaurants that inhabit aur area I want ta tell you about thse Golden Rice Bawl at 428 King St. W. in the aid "Mister Donut" store just opposite the Osbawa Shopping Cen- tre. Owner Lee-Ching Hung, a petite and ab- solutely delightful lady, has created a paradise for Chinese food loyers who happen to inhabît this part of Durham Region. It was my good for- tune ta eat lunch there the other day, and af ter enjoying ber lare, I'm not sure Fll eat Chinese food anywhere else again. - Lee-Ching Hung is ini love witb ber food, 50 much that she even gives up one night a week ta teach Chinese cooking at thse Vanier Collegiate in Oshawa. Shes also maticulous - everytbing in ber small establishment is made fresh every day, using only the best meat and vegetables she can lay her hands on. One dish, Ive got ta tell you about is ber Sar- Tay Beef which are slices of tender steak marinated in a curry based Sar-Tay sauce and then fried quickly over an open flame. This dish is hot, if you don't like spicy food stay away from this one. If, like me, you like it "thse botter the better" check this one out - its fantastic. The meat literally melts in your mouth and the onions and spices enflame your tastebuds. Her jumbo banana sbrimps are also a deligbt and make a good compliment ta, the Sar- Tay beef, tbey allow your mouth ta cool down befare the next bite. Lee-Ching of fers dishes f rom thse four major Chinese cuisine specialities: Canton, Shanghai, Szechuan and Peking. From Canton she in- cludes almond s00 guy, moo goo guy pan (bath are chicken dishes> steak kew and snow peas (in season); guy ding and beef braised with thse diners choice of broccoli, green pep- pers, musbraoms or tomnato. Shanghai specialities include spareribs, Yew- Pow Sbrimps (in a slightly sweet soya sauce and garlic, fresh ginger and green onions); 'Huppy' family, a concoctian af seasoned greens, musbraoms, cbunks af cbicken, park and sbrimps; and a sbrimp cutlet. Peking dishes include Emperors Duck, Yang's Steak Delight (sauteed in red wine and onion sauce>; and Honey Lion Ribs. Spicy Szechuan dishes include the previously praised Sar-Tay Beef as well as Gun-Shiao Beef (beef that has been fried to a crispy touch in a hot b.b.q. sauce and served with pineapple and fried shredded cabbage) . The Golden Rice Bowl also boasts many of the more "traditional" and familiar Chinese dishes such as ahl varieties of Oshawais Best Kept Secret Dscover the inlîmate atmasphere of aur launge and bar.
