GOD SAVE THE QUEEN Gtven under my hand, at Toronto, Ontario Warren Fi. Bailie, CHIEF ELECTION OFFICER K EE P1 N G YOU INFORMED P2/33Publshed by the Office of the Chiet Elecion Ottîcer of Ontario Marigold closes play three weeks early its tbree year history, the Marigold Dinner Playbouse has closed a show earlier than an- nounced. The last performance of "Round and Round the Table", the second part of "'The Norman Conquests" was staged last Sunday evening. According to Larry Solway, the closure was necessitated by a lack of audience. "lYou can't mnake a brick without straw and you can't put on a play without an audience," he said. A few weeks ago, -he and bis partner, Nuala FitzGerald, decided to The Church Speaks Sponsored by t'e WHITBY MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION Rector St. John's Anglican Church 'Could you not watch with me one hour?" No, they couldnot. The Prince of Peace wrestled with the prospect of a criminal's death, his enermes gathered just outside the Garden of Gethsemane to ensure it, and bis closest friends slept. To be fair, it had been a busy week. First the ex- citement of the parade into Jerusalerni, the crowds there for the Passover celebration caugbt up in the thrill of the occasion. Then daily teaching in the temple, and finally, earlier this very evening, the traditional re-enactment of the special meal, made even more special by some wonderful words the Master had spoken, "This is my body. This is my blood.- So, no matter how much they cared for hlm and wanted to share these precious moments, somehow the eyes would not stay open. "Could you not watch with me this one hour? " I don't believe Jesus was being critical of his friends. He was simply expressing the desperate need of a man facing the most absolute loneliness. But even his dearest friends could not meet that need. In the end, as the wrestling between Father and Son drew to an end, il was Jesus himself wbo ministered to them from his fund of spiritual strength, replenisbed by obedience. It is once again time for us to recall these events, and the invitation of Jesus is heard once again, in the heart of every believer, "Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation." But now the situation is very different - the sacrifice has been made, the victory won, and Jesus glorified. No longer does the horror of separation from the - Father face him. Except, my friend, except as it faces us, and he is there to share it with us. He would neyer have asked bis disciples to do for him wbat he would not do for them. As Peter, James and John faced their imes of trial Jesus watched with them. Now he offers to watch with us. This Good Friday is your very special opportunity to watcb for one hour, or two, or Lree at the foot of the cross. For three hours the face of the earth was darkened as the Son suffered the loneliness of the sinner - separated from the source of ail. What he did on that day he did for me and for you, and he still invites you to share with him. Not in bis loneliness .but in the loneliness and brokeness of this world. There will corne a time when your cry goes out to hlm, "Watch with me! " Your need will be as great as his. This Good Friday take ime to watch with him. Solway also said that the Marigold's next production was to have been Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple" but unfor- tunately because the play is being rewritten for a femnale principal cast, international rights to produce the play have been with- drawn. At press timne, Solway wasn't sure what their next production would be although he did say that he is in negotiation with a couple of in- dependant producers. He expects to make an announcement concer- ning his newr production sometimne in the next week or so.
