If they are left, they will not only smother the grass, but will also block sunlight and hold moisture, making spring and early sum- mer diseases such as Pink Snow Mold, Grey Snow Mold, Leaf Spot and Dollar Spot a real threat. A light raking with a fan rake is best used here. When did you last sharpen the blades on your lawn mower? A dull blade will tear the grass blades and leave a brownish look to the lawn a few days after cuttirig. Cutting height for lawns of Bluegrass mixture tmost lawns) is 21/2 to 3inches. Watering Bluegrass lawns requires at least 11/2 to 2 hours in each area once each week along with normal ramn- faîl. More often during drought periods (July and August). Watering after dark on humid nights, encourages germination and spread of fungus diseases. it is general knowledge that the her- bicide "weed control" will control only the living broadleaf weeds that it cornes into con- tact with. Entering the soul, it becomes neutral, therefore harmless to any week seeds that have not as yet ger- minated. It is accep- table to apply several applications of Her- bicide during the growing season to catch the late germinating weeds. it is general knowledge that one ap- pliction of slow release fertilizer will not last more than six to eight weeks after it has been applied to the lawn. Therefore several treatments are required in order to keep the grass plants a rich green colour as well as to maintain vigor. Turf damaging Chin- ch Bugs are relativly new to some people. Their habits need to be better understood in or- der to prevent loss of part or in some cases all of the lawn. Chinch Bugs are a sucking in- sect. They prefer hot sunny areas that are under stress due to lack of nutrients and/or moisture. Once established and unless controlled, they will spread into a healthy lawn.
