Whitby Town Council voted to make the donation in compiance with the new disasten donation policy they implemented earlier this year. In his report to coun- cil, clerk Don McKay said that the Essex County committee was seeking financial aid for those victims of flooding which took place in the Lake St. Clair - Detroit River - Lake Erie watershed in early April. "The provincial governinent has declared the affected area to be a disaster area and has indicated that it will match on a dollar-for-dollar basis money raised by the Essex County Flood Disaster Relief Com- mittee," he said. "The money raised by the committee will be distributed on a need basis in the area affec- ted by the flooding," the clerk added. Under the town's new policy, it will donate $500 to recognszed disaster , relief organizations who receive 1-to-i provincial funding. Those receiving 2-to-i funding will get $750 while those getting 3-to-i aid will receive $1,000. Earlier this year, council gave $1,000 to the Barrie area disast.er relief committee because it was the recipient of 3-to-i provincial funding. In a letter to the clerk, committee chairman Omner Oiet said that the area sustained basses of over $12 million between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday because of the flooding. Homes, businesses and farms suffered heavy damage. Firstly, we said that Mayor Bob Attersley was second from left when he is actually in the centre of the photo, the third fromn the left. Secondly, we incorrectly spelled president Jerry Belz's (second from right) name. Other persons in the photo are: Bob Beattie, the firm's junior partner (left); Jerry Panet, general manager (second from Ieft); and East Ward Coun. Joe Drumm (right). The 8,000 square foot facility carrnes a wide range of health and beauty products including a fully staf- fed pharmacy. The new store already employs about 25 people on both a fu and part-time basis.
