Whitby lost their first game of the Etobicoke Tour- nament to Brampton 5- 15 and had to win the next three games te make the finals. Given the challenge, the midgets did just that hoidays two years ago. She swam with the Wakefield club to keep in practise for the Long Course Provincial Championships that she would be competing in after she got home." The Wakefield team will provide billets for the Whitby team. just as Whitby did for them during their stay here. The English team is also planning a series of events for their guests. IlOfficially they have planned a trip to bondon for us, and a trip to Whitby, England, but judging from some of the letters our children have received they have quite a lot of other things planned as well," Primeau said. "There are supposed to be two swimming meets alter we arrive." Primeau said they have been playing for this return trip since the other team left. (She and two other parents, Christine Armitage and Elinor Kidd, will be ac- companying the teamn.) "First of aIl we opened up the idea to the kids who had billets (from the Wakefield club) and we stated just what the expenses would be. We decided to do some fund raisers but didn't know how suc- cessful they'd be. To get a charter flight, we booked just after Christmas," Primeau said. 'rhus for eîther per. sonal or financial reasons only 12 of the 62 club members are going on the trip. The f und raisers, such as bottle drives, and tickets on donated prizes, like a bicycle and an afghan, were successful. "The kids raised $6,000; they had good support from the com- munity for aIl of their drives," Primeau said. As well as personal luggage and donated swimming suits, goggles, and bathing caps, the team will be taking along gifts for the Wakefield club: a large Canadian flag, Canada pins, Ontario pins, and Whitby pins. The Whitby club is sending with the team a conimemorative plaque with a picture of the team on il. Three of the Whitby swimmers, Mark Kelly, Heather Armitage, and Julie Leswyck, will be staying on to swim in the British Nationals at Blackpool, the week of August Il. borough 7-6, Kitchener 5-4 and Etobicoke 10-7. In the championship gamne, a tired and somewhat injured Whitby teamn displayed a great deal of desire and teamn spirit to over- turn Brampton for a 10-9 victory. Goalscorers for the midgets were Steve Dyment and Wayne Cornish with 3 goals each, Rich Dyment net- ted 2, Jeff McComb and Rob Paddick followed up with 1 goal each. Whitby's peewee team, sponsored by the Hîdeaway, completed at the Mississauga Tour- nament over the weekend, and camne home winners of the gold championship. The first game was played and lost, against Mississauga 6-18. Game two, Whitby was up against a visiting teamn from Quebec. They beat Pointe Aux Trembles 9- 6. Game three resulted, in a 6-6 tie with Wallaceburg. The gold champion- ship game saw Whitby sail past Hamilton to a 13-8 victory. It should be noted that Whitby entered the competition as a "B" rated team, and alI their games were played against 'A" rated teams. A complete team effort put Whitby on top! Several teams from Orillia made the trip to Whîtby to participate in some exhibition games. Two such games were played against Whitby's tyke and novice teams. The Redmen tykes played a close game with Orillia, but felI to a 7-1 defeat. Jeremy Brown netted 3 goals, Derek Wright came up Rowland and Gavin Prout scored 'i goal each.
