Novices lo seheartbreaker By DOROTHY MEHTA This past Labour Day weekend, the W.G.R.M.L.A. novice team travelled to Elora to participate in the AIl- Ontario provincial play- offs for the "B" cbam- pionship. The Kinsmen novice found themselves in a familiar position for thîs season, finalists losing the cbampionship by only two goals. The road to the finals saw play against worthy opponents sucb as in game one wbere Whitby defeated Etobicoke 6-2, but bad to work bard to do it. The second game was against the bard hitting Spartans and Witby bad their work cut out for tbem to win the game 5-3. Game tbree was perbaps the easiest of the four, Witby troun- ced Burlington witb an 8-3 victory. A great deal of credit must be given to goalie Jamie Hogel, who was outstanding throughout the wbole weekend, and responsible for Witby winning the close score games. With three games bebind them Whitby sailed into the "B"31 cbampionship game against Pelbam - a well disciplined, bard cbecking team. Whitby made a fantastic comeback after four fast goals put Pelbamn well into the lead, the teamn rallied to meet the checks and dish out a few of their own and closed the score to within two. Mlas, time ran out on them and Whitby lost to Pelham 6-8. Well done Whitby novice, your team ranks amongst the top in On- tario. Whitby goalscorers for the whole tour- nament were Scott Me- Donneil with 7 goals, Wayne Primeau close behind with 6, Shaydon Santos added 5, Michael Massey netted 3 and scoring one goal each were Frankie Lowe, Kelly Wayling, Paul Flintoff and Steve Taylor.
