AU activities are for seniors 55 years of age and over and member- ship is only $4 ($6 for an associate membership.) The lounges, library, games and workshoPs are open to ail members and there are things scheduled almost everyday this month. DANCE The Whitby Professional Firefigh- ters are holding their annual Christmas dance on Saturday, Dec. 7. This dance is being held at the Heydenshore Pavillon on Water St. in 1hitby. The dance commen- ces at 8 p.m. and con- tinues to 1 a.m. The cost is $25 per couple and in- cludes a *hot buffet. There are spot prizes, also door prizes. There are also bar privileges. MEETING on Wednesday, Dec. il (the second Wed- nesday of every month) there will bé a meeting of the Durham Inter- Committee. The group will meet in the U.A.W. Hall at 44 Bond St. E. in Oshawa where the film "Dream of a Free Country," a documentary about the women of Nicaragua, will be shown. The meeting starts at 8 p.m. and planning for the I.W.D's 1988 agenda will also begin. music The Henry Street High School will be presenting an evening of music Thursday, Dec. 12. The event begins at 7 p.m. and will feature concert and stage ban- ds, brass and woodwind groups and soloists. Admission is $1.50 - free for seniors BROOKLIN Group 74 will again be presentiug Olde Tyme Christmas at the Brooklin Community Centre on Sunday, Dec. 15. The program starts at 1:30 p.m. and will in- clude carol singing, a visit from Santa, refreshments and hay rides courtesy of the Kinsmen Club. Attersley, MAYOR ALZHEIMER Prominent Alzheimer researcher Dr. Umnberto De Boni will be guest speaker at the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region's mon- thiy meeting in Decem- ber. Dr. De Boni is with the University of Toronto's Department of Physiology. For more than a decade he has specialized in Alzheimer Disease. The author of a number of scientific papers, he has an international reputation for his research work. The meeting is to be held on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Oshawa General Hospital, 24 Aima St., Oshawa. Star- ting timne is 7:30 p.m. and the public is most welcome.
