The comrnittee bas events planned te suit ail ages. A Bicycle Parade wil get things underway on Saturday, September 12, beginning: at 8:30 a.m. Registration for the parade is at 8:30 a.m. and the theme is the United Way. The bike that best represen- ta the werk cf the United Way will win. Safety wili also be in- corporated into the parade and a bike check wIll be done before ad- mittance into the con- test. Entry forms for the parade and tbe bike rodeo are available at the United Way infor- mation booth to be set up at the Oshawa Shop- ping Centre a week before the kick-off or from any school office. On Saturday morning a pancake breakfast will be held. Children and adults wîll be able te have a pancake breakfast in the cem- pany of a Care Bear in the east parking lot cf the centre for a very nominal fee. Last month the coun- cil lnailed out the questionnaire to over 1,500 randomly selected bouseholds across the region, 200 in each municipality, in an ef- fort to identify any shor- tcomnings in the systemn s0 the council can plan a comprebensive range of services to meet everyone's needs. To date less than haif of those questionnaires have been returned, ac- cording to the council's vice-chairman. "We really want everyone to complete the questionnaire. It is very important that we get a good response rate to make it meaningful, " said Dr. Richard Swain. Without that level of response, Dr. Swain said the council will not be able to effectively advise the Minister of Health about the region's future bealth care needs. "The region is growing extremely fast and we want to ensure that the services are here and accessible. Without public input it will be very bard te know wbere the major empbasis should be and priorities for new programs," said Dr. Swain. To remind those bousebolds sampled for the survey, the council bas mailed out remin- der postcards and done follow-up telephene calîs.
