WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8. 1986, PAGE 17 SPORTS WEEK Durham hosts national soccer tourney Two Scarborough area teams Winl represent Ontario ini the Petro-Canada Cup (national youth soccer championshlp) which is being played frona Oc- tober 10 to 13 at the Oshawa Civic Stadium. Six girls' and six boys' teams from across Canada wlll arrive in Oshawa in hope of win- ning the Canadian titie. The boys and girls competitions will be playing on alternative fields through the weekend. Each team playing in these finals has already captured its provincial champion- ship. The Ontario teams participating i the Petro-Canada Cup un- der 14 championships are: boys - Wexford Soccer Club, Scar- borough; girls - Scar- boroughUnited Soccer Club. Both teams recently captured Ontario Cup championships to ad- vance to the Canaclian championships. Each'group of boys and girls teams is divided into two groupa of three teams based on last years results. Each group of three plays a round-robin , tour- nament. The winner of each group advances to the Petro-Canada Cup final. The'runner-up, in each group advances to the bronze medal round. The remaining teams play in the consolation final. Teams: participating in the under 14 Petro- Canada Cup are: 1Girls: Ontario - Scar- borough United, British Columia - Richmond Oldon Pirates, Quebec - to be determined, Alber- ta - St. Albert Edmon- ton, Atlantic - St. John's Alstar Newfoundland and. Boys: Ontario - Scar- borough Wexford, British Columbia - Delta YSA, Aberta - Leth- bridge Kickers, Atlantic' - Dartmouth United Nova Scotia and Prairie - Kilcona Kfickers Manitoba. Anderson runners aim.for DYSAA By TRAVIS LINDGREN The Anderson cross- country team bas atten- ded three meets this season. The first meet they were at was the Har- wood Invitational in Ajax At this event 1985 LOSSA champion Jason Gurd finished fourth and Dave Hunter fihished fifth. Junior girl's 1985 LOSSA champion Donna Petri came in the fourth spot. Overaîl the junior team finished first in the meet. The second meet they went to was the Trinity College Invitational. At this meet Petri finished a strong third while Dave Carroil finished in the ninth position. S"The Trinity meet had many teams from ail over Ontario, 50 we did really well con- sidering ail the coni- petition," said Barbara Dillion, coach of the teani. The most recent tour- ney they attended was the Blue Devils In- vitational at Brighton. Gurd finished fourth while Petri finished fif- th. Midget boy Trevor Demeris finished third. "'There is a-very good chance we will make it to DYSAA this year," added Dillion. The top ten in- dividuals and the top three teams at LOSSA make it to the DYSAA competition which will be at Dagmar this year. "O'Neil of course is the top team in the area but as for second it is between Ajax and us. I think ivre can take Ajax for that second spot," predlctedDiMlon. The team has two more meets before they start the LOSSA com- petition.
