Motomurais 14'and is a meniber of the For- mokan Judo Club in Oshiawa. He recently placed firstin both the Ontario Open i Scar- borough and the CNE International. Winnîng both of these bas qualified hlm' to represent, bis weigbt, class and.,the province of Ontarioi the Wmnter Games. If Motomura wins, in Cape Breton he qualifies to represent -Canada at the Pan- American' junior juvenile games mn Mexico. 'II hope, after ail these competitions are done, I could 'possibly have a chance to make it to the 1992 World Olympics," says Motomura. Motomura has been in Judo for eight years and bas been with the For- mokan club for two years.- He was previously a member of the Kiitchi Sai Judo Club in Port Elgin. Motomura attends Denis O'Connor Catholic High School in Ajax. Atoms win two more Whitby atoni 'B'reps improved their hold on second place with two wins and a tie in tbre league games last week. Wbitby tied a strong Umionville teani 1-1 with Josh Ford tipping the puck in on a great pass from the corner by Van- ce Stevenson. The next night, Whitby travelled to Thornhill and defeated the borne, team 4-3. Cameron Poland, Brodie Richar- ds, David Mitchell and Ford scored. Assists went to Poland (2), Jamie Pawluk (2), Paul Leclair- (2), Mitchell and B.J. Prout. On Jan. 11,' the Whitby team, whicb is spon- sored by Mr. Grocer, blasted Aurora 8-2. The team played extremely wefl and really passed - the puck as six of the eight Witby goals had two assiste~ two assists. Goalscorers were Poland (2), Ford (2), Stevenson, Richar- ds, Mike Lefranier and Prout. Assists went to Stevelison' (2), Leclair (2), Mitchell (2), Kirk Rodrigues (2), Troy Wastle (2),. Ford, Bilan Bryska, Richards and Prout. The team seems to be hitting its stride just in time for the playoffs. Whitby takes gold Whitby Juniors parlayed a total team effort intoa champion- ship at a tournament in Woodville Jan. 17. Whitby won two close games to reach the championship and then captured the gold medal with an 11-9 victory over Sunderland. Jennifer Cooper scored two 'goals as Whitby got by Port Perry 6-4 to, open the tournament. Nancy Teasdale, Christine Smith, Stacey Guymer and Lindy McIvor had the other goals for Whitby. Teasdale scored three goals to lead Whitby to 5-4 win over the host Chailoner scores 3inwin Mary Betb Challoner scored three goals to lead Whitby to a 6-1 win over Pickering in petite 'B' ringette action at Iroquois Park arena Saturday.
