Hwy. 401 area. The location is south of Consumers Dr., behind the DX gas bar. The announcement was made at a meeting of Whitby council Mon- day night. The hotel is a joint venture between Don and Bev Rogers of Whitby and a Toronto- based company called STONAT .,Investments Ltd. Whitb - The president of STONAT is Norman Stoneburgh, who was a center with the Toronto Argonauts from 1955- 1967. "At this point I don't think it will be a chain," said Rogers. "I'm quite sure we will run it our- selves." The hotel would in- clude 145 rooms, a 6,000- sq. ft. restaurant with seating for 200 and a conference room capable of seating 120. Stoneburgh's com- pany is currently building a hotel in Mississauga and he suggested that the Whitby hotel, which as yet does not have a name, will be "similar" in design. While no exact plans *were discussed, Stoneburgh said a road will be built off Con- sumers Rd. for access to the hotel. "The Town was tremendous, it helped all the way thrôugh. Whitby trustee Ian Brown, who chairs the finance and salary committee, alerted trustees Monday night to the projected in- crease during discussion of the proposed addition of 60 new staff members, plus another 31 teachers, in 1987. Neither the extra staff nor teachers required for the expansion of the core French program in schools, are included in the 1987 budget forecast of a 16 per cent mill rate increase. Brown said the 60 staff members represent a $2 million increase in expen- ditures.
