VON'S 'friendly visitors' May Martin and Inge Sauer have been 11friendly visitors" for ap- proximately four years. The two are part of the Friendly Visitor, Family Support Program, a volunteer service which works in close coleagueship with the VON professional nursing staff. Sauer visits Martin at least once a week as part of the program which brings companionship and assistance to those who are il, disabled or shut-in. Vlunteers are matched with clients who live close by them and have needs they can fil. To show her appreciation for the prograin, Martin has crocheted a tablecloth, approximately 60 inches around i a pineapple pattern. The project took her nine months. The tablecloth will be offered as first prize i a raffle to be held April 15. Second prize is dinner for two at- Steve's Steakhouse and Tavern in Oshawa and third prize is dinner for two at El Stavro's Steak House in Oshawa. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Proceeds go to the Friendly Visitor Program. Obituaries George Alfred Hobin of Whitby died on Friday, Feb. 6, 1987 in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. I-le was i his 58th year. Hé was borninh Espanola, Ont. on Nov. 25, 1929, son of James and Doris (Blanchard) Hobin. He lived i Toronto for 12 years, Sudbury for 20 years and in Whitby for 25 years. He married Mary Patricia Mc- Conaghy on Feb. 14,1953.1He is sur- vived by his wife; sons Chris of Toronto, Michael and- Daniel of Whitby; daughter-in-law Jasmine; grandsons Eric and Justine. He is also survived by sisters Margaret of Sudbury, Nina of Ot- tawa, Patsy of Toronto, and brothers Gary of Collingwood and West of Sudbury. Predeceased by his parents, brothers Raymond and Jim and sister Nora. Mr. Hobin was employed in the tool and die department of General Motors in Oshawa. He was coach and convenor of Whitby MM*or Basebail league from 1971 to 1977. He was a member of GM's Tool and Die Bowling League, Canadian Auto Workers Bowling League and the Oshawa Major Bowling League. He also played in the Autoworkers Golf League (northý plant) and the Traveline* basebail teain of the Moose Lodge, branch 2132. He was a member of the lodge and Legionaires of the Moose, ani member of the Canadian Corps, Unit 42. He also beionged. to the Whitby branch of the Kin 40 Club, as former member of the Whitby Kinsmen Club. He also was a memn- ber of the Whitby Lions Club. The -funeral was held, from the W.C. DOUGLAS ROWDEN Douglas Rowden- of Whitby died -on Tuesday, February 10, 1987 at his home, in his 75th year. He was born in Oshawa on June 23, 1912, son of Walter and Nellie -(Clay) Rowden. H1e married Clara on May-30, 1961. Mr. Rowden, who was retired, lived in Whitby for 26 years. H1e is survived- by stepchildren Marina Bauder, Vernon Brooks and Fred Brooks, ail of Oshawa; gran- dchildren Susan Wickens of' Mississauga, Brian Peggs of Whit- by, Wayne Bauder, Terry Bauder, Linda Head.and Sandy Lavigne, al of Oshawa; and nine great- grandchildren. 11e was predeceased tby his wife and brothers Arthur and Cecil.
