PAGE 8, WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAYvMARCH 4,1987 whitby business A 'new and improved' pizza store on Thickson A new - and improved .'Pizza Delight establishment has opened its doors in Whitby. The new location is in the A&P plaza on Thickson Rd. S. and the owners, John and Judi Kleffman of lttekering, point out that they have no association with the Pizza Delight which used to be located on Michael Blvd. "We have been working on this location for almost a year," says John Kleffman. The Kleffmans say that the restaurant on Michael Blvd. was in a bad location. "We were going to open up whether that one was there or not," says John. The closing of the one location helped the new location. A few phone calls, and the Kleffmans had six former employees from the Michael Blvd. store as well as one employee from a store in Oshawa. But this Pizza Delight is different from the original one, points out Judi. The store will have a dining Changes made at Simon's Management of Simon's Pizza at 701 Dundas St. W. was recently taken over by George Vlachos and Antonio Michailidis. Vachos says changes have been made to the previous menu, and he hopes to obtain a liquor licence. The restaurant now offers old Italian pasta dishes and other favorites such as barbecue chicken and ribs. The owners would like to establish their restaurant as "family style." "It's a place where someone can take the family out for an affor- dable dinner," explains Vlachos. @ Ontario Minister, Hon. Gregory Sorbara Premier, Hon. David Peterson room and has been licensed by the LCBO. The menu also differs. Besides pizza, the Kleffmans will be of- fering salads, soups, submarines, spaghetti and deserts. The Kleffmans feel they have one of the better locations in Whitby because of the growth currently going on around the plaza, and ac- cessibility from the road. "This would be a good location for any food outlet," said John. Perhaps that is why a Taco Bell is currently being constructed across from Pizza Delight, competition which doesn't worry the Kleffmans. "Several food outlets in one loc~tion can compliment each other," says John. "It also helps give the customers a good variety," adds Judi. . Besides their vast selection, the Pizza Delight will also offer lun- cheon specials. While the store opened on Mon- day at il a.m., the official grand opening won't be until the week of March 16. Hours are Monday to Thursday, il a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday 4 to 10 p.m. The dining room service ends one hour before closing time every night. The store will offer take-out and delivery with a $1 delivery charge. Pizza Delight stores operate as a division of Robin Hood Multifoods Inc. Judi says this is helpful especially since they supply the dough and the sauces. "We don't know what thé ingredient of the sauce are but it is very good," she quipped. The restaurant has the capacity to seat 39. The first Pizza Delight to open as a restaurant was in Hamilton a year ago," says Judi. Whitby's will be the seventh. The phone number is 668-4900. "If this works out we may move here from Pickering," says John. "There are a lot of nice places to live in Whitby. CAROLE BIBB behind the counter at a newly opened variety store at Myrtle Station. Store reopens at Myrtle Station By DONNA DONALDSON Carole Bibb of Ashburn has Hy- Hope. It's not just an expectation, but also the name of her new variety store at Myrtle Station. Formerly Cooke's Variety Store, when the building came up for sale, Bibb said: "I fell head over heels for it!" She knew the previous owners and decided that the store was for her, and so it became Hy- Hope Farm Market. Bibb, 30, was raised in Pickering and has lived in R.R. 1, Ashburn for the past 12 years. She feels that a variety store is needed in their community since the only other store is in Ashburn. "It has been hectic," Bibb said of preparations before the grand opening last Saturday. The building had no need for renovations, but she had been busy waiting on or- ders that were due and stocking the store with merchandise. Bibb also owns Hy-Hope Bakery on Durham Rd. 23 where she offers homemade pies and butter tarts for sale as well as sweet corn and ap- ples in the summer. Audio store relocates to Brock By JANET BROWNE Stereo and video enthusiasts will be more than pleasantly surprised with the recently relocated Whitby Audio on Brock St. S. Spending over $100,000 on renovations, owner David Johann has created a store which he says is unlike the common "stereo warehouse," a store which offers highly personalized sales help and service. Several sound rooms have been constructed to give buyers a realistic idea of what their potential stereo will sound like. "We have gone to great lengths to create an environment where people can sit down and critically. listen toxthe equipment. This way, they are able to make a proper buying decision based on what they hear, " explains Johann, a-long time Whitby resident. Johann has been in the hi-fi business for 16 years, and has owned the independent Whitby store for 10. The staff, which in- cludes co-owner James Tanner, is similarly well-qualified, according - to Johann. "We've each been in thé businessi a long time. Wë're ail fairly serious, and not just doing this part-, time." Previously located at 400 Dundas St. W., the new two-storey establishment on Brock boasts a large selection of audio and video equipment imported from top in- ternational companies. Modestly priced units are available but Johann says the store offeri expen- sive high-end equipment including $20,000 speakers and $30,000 stereo systems. The lower floor is occupied by a video rental department, where a complete line of VCR's, movies and. video accessories are available. Patrons can bring in VCR's or other equipment for repairs and cleaning on the premises.
