M ayors proclaim special week The mayors of Ajax, Pickering and Whitby have proclaimed May il to 16 as "Animal Control Awareness Week" to promote bet- ter understanding of animal control problems and responsibiities. During the week residents are encouraged to drop into the Animal Control Centre located at 4680 Thickson Rd. N., one mile north of Taunton Rd.* in Whitby. Animal control problems and érespon- sibilities will be discussed and literature will be available em- phasizing the importance of responsible pet care. Group tours can be arranged by cailing the cen- tre at 427-8737. The highlight of the week will be the selection of an animal control logo design. A competition is being sponsored by the Pickering, Ajax, Whitby -joint animal control com- mittee to come up with a logo which will be used as the basis for signage at the centre, vehicle identification, uniform crests and promotional literature. Prizes of $100, $50 and $25 will be awarded. Further in- formation regarding the contest can be obtained by contacting the centre. According to Carole Lang, manager of the centre, every owner who allows their unspayed or un- neutered pet to roam must bear the responsibility for the pet over- population.
