Free Press photo Register bikes Saturday The Optimist Club of Whitby will hold its third bike registration drive.on Saturday, May 2 from 11 a.m. 'to 3 p.m. at the following locations: Baseball diamond on Citation Cres. and Canadian Oaks Drive; Palmerston school, (Ash Dr. and Plamerston Ave); Willow Park (Willow Park Dr. - Scott St.); West Lynde Public School; Anderson CVI; Whitby Mall parking lot (Thickson Rd. S. and Nichol Ave); Otter Creek Plaza parking lot (Bonacord and McQuay Blvd); Bradley Park (Bradley Drive); church parking lot (Ribblesdale and Manning); Durham Region administration building parking lot (Garden St. and Rossland); corner of Anderson and Glen Dhu Drive. The program began in the fall of 1985 and 4,000 bicycles have since been registered in Whitby. It is estimated ther'e are 15,000 to 20,000 bicycles in Whitby. The Optimist Club of Whitby and Durham Regional Police would like to see all bicycles registered as soon as possible. During the drive Optimist Club members will provide bicycle owners with a form which will be filled out with such information as the owner's name and address. Description of the bike and serieal number. The information will then be programmed into a computer to provide the police with an inven- tory of registered bikes. Optimists will send police an updated print- out every two months. There is no financial assistance whatsoever from OHIP or the Can- cer Society for this kind of tFeat- ment. It is considered experimental even though it has produced suc- cessful results over a period. What do you do when your savings are gone? Why is there no financial help from OHIP or the Cancer Society? Why isn't there recognition for a treatment that has proven successful? Why can't can- cer research funds be useca in tns direction?
