The two teams were tied 3-3 in the fourth inning when Scott Burnett hit a bases loaded double to put Whitby ahead 6-3. Whitby's two other hits went to Ian Parsons. Greg Iannarilli pitched four in- nings for the Whitby squad to notch the win. The game was delayed after the fourth, when a power blackout doused the diamond's lights. When they came back on 20 minutes later, the game resumed but had to be called due to a time curfe w. Ro~b Rooks pitched the fifth in- nmng for Whitby, while Rob Lightle pitched the siith and final inning. Whitby capitalized on the Oshawa pitchers wildness to score their other four runs. Whitby's record now stands at 4 and 1. Their next league game is this Thursday at home against Bellevile. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Iroquois Park. wfltDys wln over Oshawa was its fourtb straigbt after an opening game loss to Orillia 10-9. Manager Dean Keating says the team is still rounding into shape as players return from university. III knew we were going to start slow," Keating says. "Our fielding hasn't been too sharp but pitching has been sharp. " Against Orillia, Whitby lost a 5-0 lead. Whitby defeated Ajax 12-9 in their fourth game despite making errors to give Ajax eight unearned runs. Rod Nichols and Rob Lightle each had two bits for Whitby in the win over Ajax. Rocks went five in- mings to get the win while Lightle threw the final innings. Earlier, Rooks and Lightle again teamed fori 7-5 win over Bowman- ville. Rooks1 took over from Whitby starter Paul Guest. Lightle st ruck out the side in the final inning. Whitby's second win of the season was more decisive - 17-O over Stouf- fville. Scott Burnett; the team's hottest bitter this season, started on the mound and gave -up only one hit ini four innings. Iannarilli finished up, aiso allowmng only one bit. Steve Gibson bit a grand slam while Ian Parsons stroked three doubles for Whitby. WHITBY FREER P,.'; WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3,1987, page 21 Rep team wins first tourney The Whitby-Iroquois Soccer Club boys' under-13 rep team, Roy's En- terprise peewees, captured their first tournamfent this- season in Midland, Michigan, May 9 and 10 to continue their winning ways of last season. In the first game Whitby troun- ced Waterford 5-0. Goalscorers were Dwayne Allen, Sean Edwar- ds, Paul Siciliano, Josh Malarczuk, and Shane Bevan. Brent Williamis got the shutout. The' second game against Sterling Heights proves to be a tough battle with both teams scoring -one goal each until the dying minutes when David Szabo made no mistake on a penalty shot to give Whitby the win. Sterling Heights, favored to be tournament champs, is recognized as Michigan's top under-13 team. Richard Bokor was the other goal scorer for Whitby. In the third game Whitby eliminated East Lansing 4-0 with two goals form Edwards and one each from Siciliano and Chris Davies. In the final game for the cham- pionship, Whitby came up against a tough Brampton teamn. The teams were tied at two goals each after regulation time and overtime. Whitby won on penalty kick goals by David Szabo, Dwayne Alien, Marlon Sookdeo and Paul Siciliano.
