The 1987 Misb Brooklin Spring Fair Pageant will be held Thursday June 4 at Luther -Vipond Memorial Mrena, starting at 7 p.m. The pageant wil also serve as a kick-off for the weekend of ac- tivities starting with ceremonies and the official opening by Debee Niziol, Miss ONE 1986-87. And what a pageant it shiould be this year. According to organîzer Carol Van Hemmen, there will be many changes in both venue and setting. A'professional florist from Whit- by Mail Florists has -completely redone the, entire stage area to, provide a floral backdrop for the Popular baby show S aturday afternoon Everyone loves a baby, anci that includes Brooklin Spring Fair Board members who will be holding their annual baby show on *Saturday starting at 2 pm Age groups for contestants are: one to four months; four to eight months; eight to 12 rnonths; 12-16 months and 16-24 monthS. Three classes will be broken down into b)aby girls, baby boys 'and twins, with prize money awarded to the top three in each class. There will be overail prizes for the best boy and girl who will be chosen from the winners of ahl the classes. Everyone is different and that in- cludes the babies who corne in ail shapes, sizes and temperaments. They are always a delight to wat- ch. There will b)e five judges this year including Glen, Cochrane of CFTOTV, athrine Barlow of Barlow Phtographers, Wendy Pritchard of -Nail Works, Jack Crawforth of Carnco and Jim Such of Marigold Ford. Peter Van Hemmen will act as counter. Acco&ding to Van Hemmen, the selection of the queen by judges wrnl be done differently, being run along the same lines as used in the Miss CNE competition. The judges will tally their vote «from one to five) after each category and turn them in to the counter. Ail category votes for each contestant will be added together to select the winner. Miss Brooklin Spring Fair as selected that evening, will reign over the Queen's Reception to be held later that evenig in the *Brooklin Legion Hall. As queen, this year's winner will receive $250 from Brooklin Spring Fair Board, a silver tray courtesy of Brooklin Village Shoppe, a set of nails from Nail Works and a por-. trait of herself from Jimmy D Photo. For the first time, the queen will also be permitted to keep her crown. The first runner-up wil receive $150 and the second runner-up $125 from the Fair. This year wil see the introduc- tion of a Miss Congeniality trophy donated by Van Hemmen Tire. Each contestant- wilI receive a photograph of herseif from Jimnmy D Photo, a gift certificate from Joe's Pizza and passes from Famlly Kartway. There are 9 lovely young ladies vying for the crown of Miss Brooklin Spring Fair this year. They corne- from Ashburn, Brooklin, Pickering, Oshawa and Whitby and during the pageant to be held on Thursday, it will be up to the panel of five judges to choose which one wil represent this area for the forthcoming year.
