PAGE 22, WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 1987 Redmen win two.more in senior lacrosse action There doesn't. appear to be anything that can stand in the way. of Brooklin Redmen this year. They have easily rolled over any competition in Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) m ajor senior league and now they have acquired the services of Brampton's Dave Pirog and western scoring champ Jini Meredith, you have to ask "just how high is Up." *There are also- rumors cir- culating that Kevin Antrim, who played so well for the defunct Ex- celsiors last year might be jumping on the winning bandwagon. In action last, week, Brooklin doubled Orangeville Northmen 12-6 and picked up a win over Peter7 borough Lakers via a 10-6 score. The game in Orangeville saw Meredith take to the floor for the first time in a Brooklin uniform and living up to bis reputation picked up his first goal of the year as a Red- men player. Redmen were ahead 5-2 at the end of the first period and carried a 9-4 lead heading into the final frame. Gil Nieuwendyk, and Paul St. John each tallied a pair of markers while Meredith, John Fusco (three assists) Randy Gallas, Tom Wreggitt, Ken Colly and Derek Keenan rounded out the scoring. Orangeville marksmen were Scott Reed with tWo goals, Lindsay Sanderson, Darryl White Kip Ren- nick and Cam Devine. Redmen continued their out-of- town stint during Fair Week with a game in Peterborough. Meredith appeared to be getting into bis famous groove as he potted four goals toward the 10-6 win. St. John wfas not far behind as he picked up three for the night as well as an assist. Nieuwendyk, Blane Harrison and Bruce 'Redwood rounded ou~t the scoring. Goal ten- der Wayne ColIy neyer ceases to amaze as he picked up three assists for the night as well as playing superbly between the pies. Fusco and Dersk Keenan each hit for two assists. Kevin Evans scored twice for Lakers while Andy ShaughnessY, Mike Burke, Glen Stevenson, Jimn Vilneff and Warren Ferguson each accounted for singles. Lakers have neyer been a team to say die and it should be jnteresting to see what they throw at Redmen tonight (Wednesday) as they corne into Brooklin's Luther Vipond Arena. On Wednesday, June 3, Whitby lost to Peterborough 12-5. That loss, said Jordan, was due to mental errors. However, Sunday nigbt's loss did not sit well with Jordan. "We have done substantial work to diamonds 2 and 4 at Iroquois Park," says Morrow. In the past year, diamond 2 has had a new infield installed and bet- ter drainage, while a new infield was also installed on diamond 4. Keating says he bas heard cern- palints about the other diamonds at Iroquois. Hie mentioned the basepatbs-and fenÃcing as areas where im- provement could. be made on diamond 1. On a positive side, he says the ligbting is the best in the area. Keating says bis understanding is that Town staff do not have enough time to teach staff bow to maintain a diamond. "But they should know in parks and recreation what tbey are doing," he adds. Kinsmen Park in Osbawa bas one of the best diamonds in the area while Ajax bas the worst, says Keating. He added tbat Osbawa bas an employee who looks after the Kinsmen diamonds fuil-time.
