Fairview Lodge resident Albert Walker will celebrate bis lOth bir- tbday Thursday, June 17-ï an event making Up part of the activities this week at the lodge to recognize Senior Citizens' Month. Walker was a longtime Whitby beekeeper until finally retiring at 95. 'He and. wife Ethel, wbo precteceased himn in 1969, had worked bard over the years to build Up the business. They shipped honey to England at one time and got permission to send a shipment to Princess Elizabeth, as a wedding present. They received many -prizes for their honey in the Royal Winter Fair and the CNE. Tbey had -as many as 300 hives at one time. Walker once taught bis trade at the Ontario Ladies College. His father, Alexander Walker, came to Canada from Aberdeen- sbire, Scotland in 1870. He married Sarah Jane Murray and they had tbree cbildren - Florence Edith (1889-1968), William Henry (1891- 1974) and Albert Alexander. His father died in 1920 and bis mother in 1942. Walker married Ethel Maud Wyman in 1917. She died in 1969 at 88. The Walkers were both active in the Presbyterian Cburch. In June of 1986 Walker donated a stained glass to thecburch in memory of: bis wife and bimself. Board ignores ro ads:o.
