The award capped an outstan- ding year for the council, said grand knight Brian McKinnon. The Whitby Knights also received the best council award for their division and the bulletin newsletter award at the convention held in Toronto in May. Meanwhile membership over the past year clinibed by 30 to a total of- 108. Founded in 1960 in Whitby, the Knights of Columbus donate funds to several charities such as the Christopher, Robin Home, Easterý Seals, and the Arthritis Society. They also support local sports teams and summer camps as well as ,Denis O'Connor High School. The chief fundraising effort is the annual charity draw in which tickets are sold ail over Ontario for a chance to win new cars. The Whitby members sold $7,000 worth of tickets for this year's draw.
